I posted this on the ID and value forum and have not had any luck, so I figured I would turn to the Franchi experts.

I picked up this Franchi the other day at a pawn shop to use as a rabbit gun and was hoping someone could tell me what it is. The markings on the Barrel are "S.P.A. Luigi Franchi - Brescia - made in Italy. It has the XXIV markings on the under side. I am taking that to mean it was made in 1967. The serial number is "C" (this is above the next numbers) 003**. It looks similar to a 48 al, but I am not sure if that is what I have or not. I see that the 48 Al's go in the $5-600 range on gunbroker. But I do not see any that have engraving like this one. Any help is appreciated.

Looks like an Eldorado or possible 35th anniversary model. I need a close up shot of the engraving pattern.

You know they quit making those in 12 gauge right? Parts are getting very tough to find. No choke tubes and only a 2.75" chamber. Not very versatile. You looking to sell it? :D

Barrel length??

Below is a close up of the engraving. Luckily for me it is a 20 gauge with a 23 1/2" barrel.

What does it say on the streamer? Located in the center of the receiver? Your photo is blurry.

It says"S.P.A. Luigi Franchi Brescia" the streamer on the other side of the receiver is blank. The photo below should be a little better.

Looks like an Eldorado. Evbutler and the others might have an opinion here.

.

Regarding fancy AL-48's:

AFAIK both the ElDorado had gold-filled engraving, & the ElDorado Gold had engraved gold inlays; and the Crown Grade & Hunter both had game scenes.

IMHO, you have a Diamond Grade w/silver inlaid scroll, made 1954-75.

This is an Eldorado Grade, I have the same gun, they are worth about the same as the hunter, just nice to have something a bit rarer. I personally like the eldorado grade. The eldorado Gold had gold filled engraving, however the Edorado as show above does not.

Notice the checkering pattern on the forearm is different that the Hunter and field grades as well. This is not a diamond grade, that had fill scoll coveravge even the on top of the receiver.

The diamond grade must be so rare, I have never even seen a photo of one. The only place that I have seen them is in old shooters bibles from that period. Anyone have one?

There is an old sales magazine that said the diamond grade was $1000 back in the 1962.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-FRANCHI-Automatic-SHOTGUN-AD-Crown-Diamond-Imperial-Grade-/400483790616?pt=Vintage_Hunting&hash=item5d3eb1af18

The OP's gun still looks like an Eldorado to me.
