I have the opportunity to purchase a like new Merkel 2000el 20ga english stock with 26 3/4" barrels choked Cyl/IC. I am a grouse hunter and this gun may be the ticket. The gun is stunning but I do not know much about them. Any input would be most welcome. Thank you in advance.

As good as? Some, maybe!

But, nothing better than a Merkel!

Your only consideration is what you are willing to spend for it.

IF I wanted a sweet SxS and money were no object, I'd look no farther.

Buy it now! And do post pictures so I can drool over them. That gun would be perfect for the hunting I do. I love that choke combo!

I have lusted over both SxS and O/U Merkels for years. Don't know if I ever will be able to afford one. That said, I have handled many in gun shops and never picked one up that didn't have superb balance and feel. They are built to last several lifetimes to boot. The gun you describe sounds perfect for grouse and just about any upland species with the exception of perhaps late season prairie roosters or other longer range open country hunting.

Good luck and please post pictures if you do decide to get it. As I recall, that model is an O/U not a SxS correct?

It is an o/u. It weighs 6lbs 2ozs but feels under 6lbs and is weighted perfectly. It is in like new condition and I compare it to other guns that I can buy for under $3,800 and I think it's a smart buy. There just aren't a lot on the market to compare it to.
