OK, all you Buckeyes. Here's a chance to let everyone know where your best sporting clays ranges are located. Yeah, I know I could go to some website and look up all the places in Ohio to shoot shotguns and all that stuff, but I want to know the BEST places in Ohio to shoot sporting clays. I just might try out a few of them this summer.

Looking for places that have moderate to challenging targets. Long stuff, weird angles, below your feet, 50 yard teal shots, tough doubles, .......... bring 'em on! Whatta ya got? Gimme your top 3 places where I could find these presentations that are open to the public.

Challenging 5-Stand setups welcome also.

I'm no expert but I'd say...

1. Briar Rabbit
2. Mad River
3. Cardinal Center (Red Course)

Cardinal also has Bunker on Saturdays. So you can shoot SC and them bunker after if you time it right.

Come check out Briar Rabbit. We have 2-100 bird courses, a challenging 5-stand. Targets are changed often.

Sadly, I didn't get to Ohio this summer to check out any of those sporting clays venues. Maybe next year. :)

That's what I'm finding. It sucks that there aren't even any Sportsman's Clubs, let alone Trap Leagues and Sporting Clays courses around here like there are in WI an NY (where I've lived in the past).

Just saw this forum and thread.

One of the best in NE Ohio, and south of Geauga County, ( where I live) is Hill 'n Dale in Medina.

It's private, but if any SGW members want to shoot there as my guest and try it out, shoot me a pm and we'll see if we can work it out.

Damn, that place is nice! I too live in Geauga Co and it's 53 miles from me. I wish it was closer, I'd join in a heart beat!

I haven't been trap and/or spring clay shooting since moving here to Ohio a few years ago. I might have to take you up on your offer to go out there for a shoot.

Where abouts in Geauga Co do you live? Do you do any late season waterfowl hunting?

Bainbridge /Auburn Township near LaDue, and yes, lots of waterfowl hunting both on the water and field.

Shoot me a pm with contact info and we'll get you to Hill 'n Dale and maybe set up a hunt soon!

We hunt LaDue, Mosquito, Grand River Wildlife Area, and some rivers and fields.

Where are you at?

I meant to add this info earlier:

Weslaco near Chardon is a very nice Trap/Skeet/5 Stand and hunting club. Private but very affordable and friendly to guests.

Also I like Urbandale in Madison. Public; Trap, Skeet; 5 Stand, pistol range; and the start of a small but nice Sporting Clays range in the woods. Great folks there.

I shot there in a skeet league for 2 years when I worked closer to it. Then I joined Hill 'n Dale which is slightly quicker to get to from my house plus it's one of the better clays courses I've shot at anywhere.

But for guys that live near the Lake or I-90 Urbandale is a nice place to shoot skeet/trap/5 Stand.

If you're near Chardon or east of there at all check out Weslaco. I looked them up on the web and was invited to shoot, which I did on and off for a year as a guest. Really friendly folks there.

To bring this thread back from the dead, I shot at Black Wing Shooting Center this past weekend. It is still a top notch facility. Very clean. Highly recommended. I haven't shot a lot of sporting clays so I can't compare the difficulty level but I can say personally there were a few very humbling moments :)

If any of you guys haven't tried Hill 'n Dale it's about as nice as any club I've shot at in the country.

Briar Rabbit is much further South but is nice as well.

We're living in the Upstate, SC area now and have found some really nice places to shoot Sporting Clays (and great folks). So far though, none match Hill 'n Dale for terrain; great targets; excellent club house; ETC. But pretty close!

One cool thing I've found here at 3-4 clubs so far is that they have wider cart paths. Roads actually - and you can drive your truck around the course rather than using a cart if you want. And extremely nice winter weather! Plus great membership rates. There's 2 clubs near me in NC I'm wanting to try soon - a new shooting center in Tryon and Smoke Rise Field Club in Rosman. (Just northwest of Greenville, SC and SE of Ashville, NC).

I live about 10 minutes from Cardinal, half hour from Blackwing. Blackwing's course is pretty easy. I'd say its easier than the light course at Cardinal. Typically the red course at Cardinal is the more difficult course, but they have it switched now due to the big championships going on this week.

Blackwing is nice if you want to take people who have never shot before or shoot a couple times a year. I hear Mad River is really nice but I haven't had a chance to shoot there yet.

Can we get addresses and or websites posted up for all these clubs? I can't seem to find a few to see how close/far they are from me.

Thanks.

Top three, from my experience are Cardinal Center, Briar Rabbit, and Hill n Dale. Of the three, Hill n Dale is not open to the public except for charity shoots and NSCA registered tournaments.

Hill n Dale: http://www.hillndaleclub.com/

Cardinal: http://www.thecardinalcenter.com/

Briar Rabbit: http://briarrabbit.com/

Other notables in the western side of the state are Mad River and Middletown
