Any opinions on this gun? There is a nice one in the local shop for decent money. I want an O/U for upland when my 20 gauge isn't enough and for tower shoots. This seems nice and has a full set of choke tubes. My only worry is that I know nothing about it (recoil, reliability, ect) and it is ported. Also it looks like it only handles 2 3/4 shells, which isn't a huge concern of mine for my uses. Any experience with this gun and porting in general would be welcomed! Thanks!

Hmm. 680, 682, 686, and 687s I'm familliar with, not a 685. Doesn't mean there isn't one, but I'm not aware of one. I like the 68? series Berettas. Nice guns!

BP, I wouldn't have known there was such a thing as a 685 either, if I hadn't noticed a listing for it in the Blue Book. I'll look it up again.

I been studying my blue book recently, I'm in the market for a 682 Sporting gun so I been kind of reading up. I don't recall seeing the 685, but I wasn't looking for that model, just 682s. I'd be surprised, if in fact they have a 685, if they weren't just as well built and servicable as any of the other 68? series Beretta shotguns! I've got a ported Browning, swiss cheeze has holes too! Serves about the same purpose best I can tell! :wink:

The BB says: Model 685 - 12 or 20 ga. 2 3/4 or 3 in. chambers, matte chromed receiver, extractors, single trigger. Disc. 1986.

Condition 100% 98% 95% 90% 80% 70% 60%
Value: $595 525 460 420 360 320 295

IMHO, the porting would reduce its value, but how much is a personal decision.

As for recoil, that depends on the weight of the gun, what kind of pad or buttplate it has, and how well the stock fits you.

If it is basically the same thing as the rest of the 68x series, it is a reliable gun - but I can only assume it is like the others in the series.

BP, the 685 is listed under "Shotguns: O/U, Field - Recent Mfg."

Thanks, I took the model number off the tag, but this shop is reliable. I'll have to go back and look to make sure. Sounds like the tag may have been correct but its not a popular gun. I am leaning against as I think about it b/c it is ported and I am wondering how loud it will be and if it will p/o my buddies (or my chessie :lol: ). I also appreciate the price listing you gave. They wanted 699 and seemed ready to deal a bit. It was in very nice condition (95%) with a full set of tubes, so they price is probably a bit high. Some of my buddies love porting, others hate it. Is the BB online anywhere. Any suggestions for a similairly priced O/U? Thanks a million!!!

Ben;

That's why I didn't see it listed, I've been looking at Skeet and Sporting Clays models. Amazing, the amount of information in that book!
