Yes, the stock has a split in it, but no pits or rust on the metal....functions flawlessly

the other side reads
2 1/2" or 3" shells
It was my grandpa's first gun, and basically used it to feed his family during the depression. I haven't asked him where he bought it, or the condition it was in, but I assume its probably older than he is (82). I have no interest in passing it to anyone other than my kids someday. I'm just wondering if I should store it as eye candy, or take it out squirrel hunting. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated.
