Just accepted delivery of my first Franchi, a N.I.B. 20 ga. model 48 AL Deluxe. my first impressions are excellent. I'm well aquainted with the action as I've owned Auto 5's before.
Got to strip this down, and clean/lube to my liking.
Friction ring setup seems VERY tight ? Maybe a breaking in period will change this.
Anyway, this gun is as light as a pool que, and I'm looking forward to a long relationship.

You bought a wonderful hunting gun, and your timing is perfect. Good thing you didn't wait much longer. I have read that the 48AL has been discontinued. I have had two older ones in 12 gauge, they were great guns. {hs#

Shot it today :D 1st shot didn't eject, but ran like a sewing machine after that. ( I guess it needed a one shot "break-in" ) Also, I only brought 20 shells with me and not one miss, so I figure it fits me. Also, I didn't notice before, but the butt stock is offset which I love! :D

I have one in 28 gauge. It is one sweet hunting gun to shoot and carry. I've dropped pheasants and grouse and Huns with mine.

I used one for over 50 years. Never missed a lick. One piece of advice, make sure that the recoil ring is in the right position for light or heavy loads. Mine will eject light loads just fine with it in the heavy load position but some won't.

I have owned 12 gauge and 20 gauge 48s but only the 20 gauge is still in my safe. I never shot the 12 gauge much and sold it. Of all the guns I have owned in my almost 80 years, the 20 gauge 48 is my favorite. You can carry it all day and not have your arms feeling like they are about to fall off.

If I was into clays, I would have a much heavier gun to keep my shoulder from rebelling. When I shoot some 5-stand, I have guns that are more suited for that, such as the Remington 11-87.
