Wanted to try deer and pig hunting in California and after a lot of research settled for a .270 Savage with a Vortex Viper HS Scope to round out my first hunting rifle. I purchased 6 different brands of ammo and when the dust settled the Superformance and the Nossler ammo were the best. Both gave me a 5 bullet 3" groups at 100 yards but the Nossler ammo groups were slightly tighter and the recoil was less. My question is two fold. 1) It seems like every rifle is different or is it the interior grooves inside the barrel that determine which ammo is best for your gun? 2) Is 130Grain E-Tip Nossler Trophy Grade Ammo good enough for Pig Hunting in California....Or would stepping up to 150Grain ammo be better? In going through Paso Robles last month the pigs I saw were no more than 100 to 150 yards away!! All private property ....Your thoughts please....

Can't find fault with any of your choices. Though a fan of .270, I've never owned one. I own a .25-06 and I can find nothing that the .25-06 can do that the .270 doesn't do just as well or better.

I'm not familiar with the two bullets you mentioned. As long as they're not 'varmint' bullets, you'll be OK.

It is more than good enough for elk and moose, much less feral hogs.

I think your ammo is fine. Just place a good shot and all will be well, except for the hog.
