 Post subject: No friction ring

Hi all, i'm new on the forum and am hoping someone might be able to answer this. I've been offered a reasonably well-used 48AL but it has no friction ring. It appears to be in pretty good condition. I've had a look at some of the posts on friction rings and can see that they're a key component. However, they do seem to be very difficult to get, so i did wonder whether a stronger spring could be an alternative to the usual friction ring/factory spring set-up? Might it enable the gun to cycle etc but without causing excessive wear?

I would be very grateful for any thoughts. Thanks

Location: 35 miles from Normal, Illinois (as close to normal as I'll ever be)
If it has been fired with no friction ring, I would check it, or have someone knowledgeable check it, for internal damage before purchasing.
