I just bought a new Stoeger Coach gun. I believe they have the IC and M chokes installed on it. Which side has what choke and what does the IC and the M really mean ?
Can you shoot a slug out of both ?

Thanks in advance with any help.

If you remove the chokes, they should be marked with the size ( IC= improved cylinder) (M = Modified). Slugs should only be fired through the barrel with the IC marked choke. Improved cylinder is to be used for closer range targets and is a more open choke and the barrel with this choke would be fired first. The modified choke should be used for targets that are further away due to it having a tighter constriction and is not recommended for slugs. Any other questions might require a call to Stoegers customer service line.

Best of luck with your new gun,
Joe

Thank you for the reply. I did take the chokes out and there were no markings on them. I believe I will mic the inside and figure the smaller one out. I just think that I will order another IC choak and put it in place of the M choke. Better yet never fire a slug out of this SXS, just use my 870 for that.

Thanks again for the reply.

j the answer to your question is in the third photo. The right choke has 2 notches cut into it and the left choke has 3 notches. According to Stoeger's website the right choke is an IM or Improved Modified and the left choke is a Mod of Modified choke. Here is a link to their website with the answers you're looking for.

P.S. Good looking shotgun.

CG504,
Thank you so much. Did not notice that. I was looking in the manual and did not see it in there either.
So according to the website neither of these chokes are recommended for Slugs. Good info Thanks again.
