I replaced the recoil buffer in my SUPER X-1, and now the bolt won't stay locked in the rear position. The trigger still clicks. Any ideas on what I did wrong, or how to remedy?

You do not have the buffer seated all the way. Did you put some grease on it before you inserted it

Harv is correct.
I clean the receiver well with brake cleaner and then squirt the new buffer extension with brake cleaner, while still wet align the cut-out and drive the buffer into place with a 3/4" dowel and hammer.
The brake cleaner will soon evaporate and the buffer is then locked into place.

After unsuccessfully struggling with this problem for several days, i finally asked my gunsmith friend for assistance. It turned out the problem was that a small remaining piece of the old buffer was STUCK in the action, preventing the new buffer from properly seating. He took off the buttstock, to clean out all the old remenants; and now it works fine.

It reads helpful enough to me.

What's the Super X-1 for, Gold40, Sporting Clays, hunting, Trap/Skeet?

I was going to use this older Super X1 for Sporting Clays and hunting. When I bought it, i didn't know that it was difficult and expensive to add choke tubes - minimal barrel diameter at the muzzle. Decided it wasn't worth the time and money to add tubes. Didn't need another full choke 12 gauge shotgun. Ended up selling it on gunbroker. Nice gun, handled well, and in good shape for its age
