I would guess that most people who shoot clays have a back up gun just in case their go to shotgun is in the shop for repairs or in case a friend or family member wants to shoot .Does your extra gun sit in a safe or the back of a closet most of the year? I shoot an backup Remington 1100 maybe three rounds a month just because I like the 1100 as a firearm

I rarely shot it (Versamax) until I sent my Fabarms RS12 in for some work. I shoot the Versamax so well, maybe better than the Fabarms that the roles may switch when I get the Fabarms back tomorrow.

I shot my A400 today... My K-Gun forearm in for a refinish. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss 'Lady-K'.

Although I have two guns I prefer for skeet, I shoot all 22 of my shotguns occasionally. And of course if you shoot all 4 gauges, then you a lot more back ups.

I'm still trying to determine which is primary and backup! I thought my 686 would be my main shooter but tend to shoot my 390 better. Like Bob, I cycle them all.

I'm finding it a new challenge to keep #7.5 and #9 shot in three guages, too.

My backup gun is also my main loaner gun so it gets shot periodically.

Not exactly a backup but in addition to my UO competition gun I do have a SXS which I use if hunting with the shotgun and use on the occasional sporting event. The SXS also comes out for the occasional round of skeet just for fun.

I use 2 guns regularly for sporting clays - a 20 ga. O/U and a 28 ga. O/U. Both happen to be Berettas. I don't use 'em in any particular order - just as the mood strikes me.

I don't consider either one a "back-up" gun.

I also have a Browning Cynergy Classic (not the "Euro" stocked model) in 28 ga. that I also use on occasion.

I pull out my BUG whenever I'm in a slump with my main mount. Or of course when Mjolnir (my main mount) is getting serviced.

Got one coming Maier, but that is it for Shotguns. (For now) I am way too old to catch up to your inventory.

I have one primary gun I use for clays. I have a number of other shotguns, a couple of which I used in high school 54 years ago, and several others that I acquired I the last 5 years. When I shoot clays, I use my primary gun for 3 rounds, but I always take one of the others for shooting at least 1 round. That way, they are all shot at least twice a year. My view is that guns are made to shoot, so I should shoot them.

I know that it is best to use the same gun to reach your full potential. But I just can’t help myself. I like to shoot all of my guns.

If you shoot your backup shotgun regularly it isn't your backup gun.

I do the same, rotate between 4-5 shotguns and rarely shoot the same one more than twice (two outings).

I shoot with a guy who only shoots his A300 and now he shoots as well or better than me. In 100 clays, I used to best him by 15 shots.

Funny you ask because I find myself the only guy at the club with 4 different shotguns when I'm out for fun or just practice. I only shoot my Krieghoffs when shooting registered. I like to rotate through and use other guns just for fun. The one guy that works on the trap side (loading targets+ helping newbies) used to get so mad at me saying "your never going to get really good unless you just stick to one gun!" My response is always "I want to play with ALL my toys". All the shotguns I acquired as I kept moving up to a "better gun" sit in the gun safe and I feel they need to get out and be used every now and then. I really don't have a backup gun per say but was just compelled to tell my story. Thanks and Enjoy.

Primary is a Fabarm XLR5 FR and back up is my now go to field gun a Fabarm L4S. I shoot the L4S about once every 5 to 6 weeks and then 2 or 3 times in a row before pheasant season starts.
Use it or loose it.

I have them set-up the same way but the XLR5 just feels much better when shooting 100 - 200 rounds in a day. Walking fields for 3 -4 hours I'll take the L4S.
