Well, yesterday I picked up a CZ 720 ALS G2 for my wife to use. We gave some thought to either getting a custom stock for her Benelli Montefeltro or adding an adjustable comb to it but it's still a light gun and is inertia operated instead of gas. Recoil would still be an issue after a box or two. So we decided to relegate the Montefeltro to hunting duty and get the CZ for target shooting.

First impressions are that this gun should work great for her. Getting the stock the correct length (first notch out from shortest setting) was a breeze and by setting the adjustable comb to the middle setting, it seems to fit her very well. She has her head in a more upright natural position instead of canted to the side. The gun is also a bit heavy, which is good for a target gun. Between the extra weight over the Montefeltro and the gas system vs the inertia system, felt recoil should be substantially less than the Benelli allowing her to be able to shoot more than two boxes at a time the couple of times a year we shoot at Vanzant without getting a sore shoulder. The recoil pad on the ATI stock seems pretty good. Better than the usual standard CZ pads.

Proof is in the pudding as they say so we won't know for sure until she shoots it. If we don't get out before then, she will definitely shoot it during a camping trip we are taking later this month. I'll report back then. The good thing is that if she doesn't like it, I can move the stock out 2 clicks and shoot it myself!

Sounds like a great choice. Please keep us advised of how this plan works out.

Just being a gas gun it will have less felt recoil, I bet she will like it a whole lot more than the Benelli.

Here is a not so good photo with me holding it up against one of our walls while my wife takes a picture:

Very nice! Excited to hear your (and your wife's) thoughts after trying it out. I've been considering the 712 ALS G2 for my fiance for the last 6 months. Please keep us posted!

Well, my wife and I just got back from a camping trip in Ohio where we both shot her new CZ ALS 720 G2. So we didn't shoot heavy shells to break it in and it jammed the first 4 or 5 times we shot it. After that though, we shot 2 boxes through it without issue. The recoil pad on the ALS stock is very good and that combined with the weight of the gun equaled very low felt recoil. My wife shot some stationary patterns with it first and her POI was pretty much right on with her POA. She also hit most of the straight away targets we were throwing. The terrain where we were shooting was a narrow lane and straight away targets were the only option since any angle would put the targets in the trees. Overall first impression is that this is a decent gun and the adjustable length stock and adjustable comb provided a really good fit for my wife. We'll know more after this weekend. We are going to shoot some actual rounds of skeet and see how she does.

Forgot to update on the skeet shoot. The CZ 720 ALS G2 worked great. Another 3 boxes through it with no malfunctions. My wife shot about the same as usual as far as targets hit. However, she experienced no soreness from recoil. With the lighter Benelli Montefeltro, she would have soreness after 2 boxes. The weight, the butt pad on the adjustable stock, and the gas operation all work together to tame recoil and make it much more pleasant for her to shoot. I adjusted the stock longer and shot it some myself and was able to hit targets with it at my normal rate. Overall, we are very happy with the gun up to this point. We will see how it holds up in the long run.
