What is this sport?

The gym I go to has several flat screen TV's all set to sports channels but with the volume turned off. This is so members don't miss "the game" while working out. This afternoon while doing my chest, shoulder and triceps routine I noticed a weird sport on one of the screen. It involved four players, two wearing red and two wearing blue. They were on a grass field within a chalk circle about twelve to sixteen feet in diameter, sort of like the one in the middle of a soccer field. In the center of this circle was one of those little 3' trampolines like cheerleaders use to do flips and other stunts.

The game seemed to be a cross between four square and volleyball with the objective being to bounce some sort of small ball off the trampoline in an attempt to keep the other team from returning the volley. I noticed that the players only seemed to use the trampoline every other time lateraling the ball to each other sort of like setting up a slam in volleyball.

What is this strange sport? The players were obviously taking it very seriously lunging, diving and rolling in an attempt to keep the ball in play and it also looked like they were rotating in pairs of girls and boys.

By the time I became curious enough to walk over close enough to the TV to read the captions this show was over and something involving baseball was on. Does anybody have an idea what this strange new sport is? It looked like a lot of fun.

If there was beer involved and some part of the game involved getting the ball in the beer, and if any of the girls were wearing less than normal clothing.... then it sounds a lot like "college"...

Laugh if you want - some of us played "college" full contact for four years. Maybe more. No eligibility rules in college other than having enough money to play.

It's either that, or were all being groomed for a world without football. Look up "pickle ball". And tell me with a straight face that society isn't screwed :)

Could you tell the age group the players were in this "sport"? From the way you describe it, it sounds like games kids or teenagers play during gymnastic classes with trampolines.

Young adults probably college age. This was not gym class but a serious sport with uniforms, a referee, spectators and ESPN coverage. The players exhibited the same adroit athleticism seen in beach volleyball by diving and rolling in an attempt to return the ball.

Spikeball it is! Thanks Jim Miller.

And oneounceload, sports in general are for 20 something's and not for those of us with old knees or any other old body parts, but playing on loose beach sand like in the video would go a long way in reducing the impact on your joints.

I do look pretty dapper in a suit that sparkles!

I don’t have that much hair though.
