Hello,
I have a black powder, double barrel, muzzle loader, shotgun manufactured by Scott and Son. Just got it back from a gunsmith who said this: " CHECKED WALL THICKNESS NO ISSUES FOUND. BORE DIAMETER LEFT BARREL: .767" RIGHT BARREL: .762-.759". " I assume the left barrel is for ball the right for shot (choked). Bores seem to fall between 10 and 12...so it seems to be 11 gauge (stamped 11 underside of barrel also). As this is before W.C. was added to the name and it has no serial number I'm guessing it's pre 1858....am I correct?

You might have better luck posting your inquiry at doublegunshop.com

Without seeing a pic of the gun and it's Proof marks, it difficult to be absolutely exact, but you've got the rights of it IMO.

The only quibble I'd have is the comments about the differences between the barrel measurement indicating either ball or shot ... most unlikely in a muzzle loader.
