Hello All,
Long time visitor to this forum but have now joined to ask a question or two.

But a bit about me here first. I shoot mostly "Simulated Field" as it is known here in Aus. Thats Sporting Clays to most of you. Also shoot Trap (occasionally) & Skeet (regularly, but only as practice).
Been known to hunt ducks and quail as well as several of the smaller pest species here (rabbit, fox, feral cat), both with shotgun & rifle (not the ducks and quail)

Also been on my club committee for longer than I care to think about.

Greetings from New York. Where down under are you? I worked for TNT for 8 years and spent a lot of time in Australia.

Welcome mate, and 2X on the ROLL TIDE, only from Savannah, Georgia! Welcome aboard.

I have a shotgun related question. It seems I read somewhere where semiautomatic shotguns are illegal in Australia. Is that correct? Thanks .

Semi-auto and pump-action shotguns are not "banned" in Aus, They are both Category C firearms and ownership is restricted to those who need one (and only one) for occupational purposes (farmers) or for clay target shooting (on medical grounds)
Unless they hold more than 5 shells, then they are a Cat D that very few people can get a licence for. Same applies to semi-auto rimfire and centerfire rifles.

Other shotguns (singles, doubles, bolt-action) are Category A.

God that sucks... good pumps and semis are FAR cheaper than double or single guns of the same quality!

Sounds like an almost dictatorship to me! Most firearm laws are arbitrary. It would be like limiting the amount of alcohol one can consume!

At least you make the best of it! Can’t you own all that stuff next door in New Zealand? You probably wouldn’t know that. I’ve always wanted to visit Australia and New Zealand. I have a cousin who lived over there. She may still. I met her boyfriend she met there last December when they came back to Colorado for Christmas!

I think even the U.K. Has less restrictive laws on the types of shotguns one can own!
