Hello
Yes I have been lurking for a decade or so, learning everything I could from all of you.
I really couldn’t help anyone with anything so I just watched in amazement of the knowledge you guys had on my favorite browning shotguns.
First I want to say “ thank you” I mean that sincerely.

I have recently purchased quite a few pre war brownings including a 3 digit a5 Belgium engraved a5.
Thanks to your guidance Art has restored it and four others for me.
I have just now joined this fine site and will post pics of all of them soon.

Just wanted to thank you all and share some pics, I certainly could not have acquired these without your help.

Any help with pics would probably expedite, unfortunately I am a plumber and not the quickest at getting through this computer stuff.

Thanks

Welcome out of the shadows jta5er. I consider anybody that owns a 3 digit A5 a friend. Are those digits under 500 or over. Hope to see pics soon.

It’s number 83x.
Some one had done a really bad job years ago trying to refinish it, it took quite a bit of money but wow art can do some great work. How do I email you pics? I am having trouble with apple account and imagur.
By the way I do remember checking out your straight stocks, awesome group.

I have imgur up now I will muttle through it, but I sent both you guys some pic.
I also have pic of my latest find, it’s a 1938 sweet, 3shot , seems to be factory 2 3/4 ( I know it’s not supposed to be) and has really different engraving on ejector side of action normal engraving on other. Let me know if anyone seen this pattern before. I sent out for browning letter today. Will see?

Welcome to the non-lurker part of SGW.

And who is Art? A buddy I'm getting back into shooting brought out his 20ga Model 12 that he had as a kid. Actually it was originally his dad's and was cut down for him, then later had a piece put back in the stock and when he brought it out he said it hadn't been fired in 51 years! He was also asking about who I'd recommend to maybe restore it but I didn't have a clue. :?: :?:

Guys are helping me with pics

Just really wanted to thank you guys.
My father had a ffl when I was growing up and I spent most of my spare time hunting when I was younger. For the last decade or so I have been hunting my favorite guns from a computer or iPad.
I have spent thousands of hours at night looking up phrases about brownings and they usually led to you guys and a wealth of information.
Nice to know others appreciate the working art of a fine shotgun.

I can’t say enough good things about Art and his family either, they did a awesome job.
I fiananced all of these last 5 guns selling parts ( lots of barrels)and Art and Brad helped me with that.

One question.
Do we really know if browning(fn) ran two different runs of serial numbers 1-500 or is this still a maybe?

Instead of posting the link, hit the Full Editor button at the bottom of the page, then it Img button at the top, and paste the link between the brackets.

Here is other side of receiver.
Arts crew said they had only seen one other with this engraving pattern.
They had to sharpen up most of the engraving, someone had buffed it.
Since gun had already been tampered with and had replacement wood, I just let them work their magic with it.
I did have more correct closed finger grove Forend finished to match, but this one just looks and feels better.

Anybody ever seen this engraving type before? Other side of receiver is normal type.
Its on a 1938 sweet 16, 3 shot, with a 2 3/4 barrel ( I know that’s not supposed to be). I called browning for a letter on it. I believe this one will be my last project for a long time. Any ideas? I thought this might be one of those “ specials” I have read about, but have never seen a pic of (hint). If browning comes up with anything I will post.

This is a 1931 Grade II and it’s not as ornate as yours. I think 1938 was the first year of standard engraving on Browning imports. For comparison, a 1938 Sweet Sixteen is below:

I have a hunch about the 38. What is the serial #? You can pm me if you wish. Check the barrel ring for five holes. Pull the buttplate and see if the stock is drilled or hollowed.

I can’t pick this one up from ffl till Monday but will post pics soon as I can. The listing picks were different enough. Gun had a split forearm and hopefully stock was just a scratch. If the serial numbers match on the barrel I will definitely bring this one back to new.

Nice grade 2 Rudolph31,I’m a sucker for these old 16s.
