Gentlemen,

I have a loader on the way for my son's new 20ga and I'm looking for some load data.

I have on hand;

Unique powder
W209 primers
Rem sport load hulls
Win AA hulls
Win universal hulls

Was leaning towards the rem RXP20 wad for 7/8 & 1oz loads. However a quick look @ my loading books only show these loads with other primers.

Anyone have a load with any of these components?

All help is appreciated. I am new to the 20ga, but have been loading 20s for a number of years.

SSB

Typicaly loading data for Remington hulls lists Remington primers, but In every application I can think of where a Remington 209 is called for you can use the WW 209 without any problem whatever. I have for years, and with Unique to boot. Forget about the Universal hulls and load up the AAs and the Remington Sportloads. The RXP 20 wad will be fine as long as all the components fit whatever hull you happen to be loading at the time. There is some difference in the length between the old and new AAs and the Sportload and STSs. Wads do make a difference in the overall outcome of your loaded shell.

I've got a bunch of 20ga recipes that use Unique, most are what could be called "Creampuff" loads. You didn't say how old your son is, but my daughter's 11 and she loads her own (under my watchful eye).

I'll bring some in tomorrow and post them. Most are from Alliant's website, a couple are off the back the Orange Duster bag.

Scout,

Light loads are great, my bot is 9 but quite small framed. Is the orange duster wad the duster equiv of rxp20? I use duster wads in 12ga, waa12 & waa12sl equiv and am quite happy with them.

Gents,

Was just browsing on Alliants web site, found several recipes for this powder/wad/primer. I'm not sure about something though.

Is the sport load hull the same as the Premier, the STS, the RXP, the Unibody??

Please advise.

Thanks

SSB

I use the Claybuster wads with Unique and win 209 primers and have had great sucess.

the recipee is win 209 primer
Claybuster 1078-20 wad
15 grains of Unique for 1155 fps
16 grains for 1200 fps
I have loaded this in sts and aa hulls and have had better luck with the remington hulls.

The recipees I have show the RXP for 1 ounce loads not 7/8 for the aa hulls.

Also, for what it's worth, I used Unique for a long time until I couldn't take the overly dirty hulls, barrels and actions after a day of shooting. Now, I use International Clays by Hodgdon and haven't looked back. :)

SSB;

In the strictest sense of the word, no the hulls you mentioned are not the same. For all intents and purposes, yes they are the same. RXPs are typicaly a tad shorter with a tad less capacity, but not enough to make any real difference if your wad pressure and crimps come out good. A little adjustment may be necessary on final crimps, but for components and powder charge, samo, samo!

SSB, the Orange duster wads are the "equavilant" of the WAA20 according to their bag and website. I pretty much go by the "Remington Hull is a Remington Hull" school of thought. I do however, tend to stay on the low side of the pressure ranges, Just In Case.

I also prefer the Duster wads for my 12 ga guns. Anywhere from a a buck or three cheaper then the others and almost no plastic build-up in the barrels.

Here are the loads I've used, they're on the back of the bag of orange dusters and also on their website.

Remington Hulls
7/8 oz shot
Rem 209p Primer
16.5 grns Unique
Orange Duster
1155 fps
7700 psi

7/8 oz shot
Rem 209p Primer
17.5 grns Unique
Orange Duster
1200 fps
8100 psi

AA Hulls
7/8 oz shot
Win 209 Primer
15.0 grns Unique
Orange Duster
1155 fps
9800 psi

7/8 oz shot
Win 209 Primer
16.0 grns Unique
Orange Duster
1200 fps
10500 psi

Fed/Estate Hulls
7/8 oz shot
CCI 109 or 209 primer
17 grns Unique
WAA20 wad
1200 fps
8500 psi
