What is the model number on it? Several of the bolt action ones were recalled. On second thought, those were 12 gauges. See http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/micro ... ar+5,+1999

All J. C. Higgins guns were low-dollar knockoffs of other famous makers;
Marlin, Savage, High Standard, Sako, Browning, Stevens, etc.
It would help to know the model number and by cross-reference find out the maker.
It could be a Marlin M55 copy which in 100% condition will bring $100......maybe. That's for the Marlin; the J. C. may bring a whole $75 in 100% condition.

You're right, natty. Inappropriate wording on my part.
