Not just Franchi.
These are government mandated codes for all Italian made firearms. Benelli, Franchi, Beretta, and so on.

Should have 2 letters inside a box or roman numerals prior to 1975. They will be on the receiver and the barrel.

Hello !
Thanks; I have looked under my barrel and find , no box with noumbers or roman numerals. I see { Finito P S F a shield with what looks like a coat of arms a large star
And four small stars over the Finito psf. I have used a magnifying glass but cant make out whats on the coat of arms.
Guess I've got a fluke !!!!!
Thanks again.
A.J.

I have been looking for info on a Franchi that was given to me through a family member that had passed. After reading this it looks like it was manufactured in 1965, Which makes sense since they also gave me a hunting license from 1965.

Thanks for the info. My AL-48 was made in 1969, and still functions well.

Hopefully I'm in the right forum. I recently purchased a used 12 ga. semi-auto "Luigi Francia (not Franchi) Brescia" per engraving on receiver and barrel. After reading some of the identification posts and finding "XVII" on the barrel, I "assume" it was manufactured in 1961. It appears to be in very good shape, especially if manufactured in 1961. I thought I'd posted an inquiry about it earlier today but do not find it in any forum or post. Maybe it has just not been authorized yet. Anyway, since trying to post, earlier, I removed the barrel and found a lot of information not visible on the top of the barrel or anywhere on the receiver. The information is as follows (hopefully not too much for this post), followed by some pictures:
26” Barrel (w/Adjustable Choke)
Most Important per Shotgunworld.com Under Barrel itself (fore stock removed) loads of information -
1) On tube ring insert, forward of “Tube Ring”, “R” (or A”) and “H T”
2) Receiver end of “Tube Ring”, 6
Following toward receiver end of barrel:
3) in script Acciaio “Bogne”.
4) then in script K.M.O.
5) then Superchromato
6) followed by ingraving/embossing of what appears to be a hunter, facing down the barrel with firearm
7) slightly raised above center line of the barrel in small type – 70’
8 - then same size type as most, what appears to be a s/n – 708345
9) then on the aluminum plate (alignment flange?) – N
10) back above the s/n and engraving toward the barrel the following:
K3 0 (with what appears to be a ¼ moon below and between them) 1 0 1 0 203 177 (with 18’4 just below the 177)
PSF (with two treetops? Stamped above) then FINITO with treetop/star (definitely a star unlike other stampings) above
Above all near the receiver end is what appears to be another “treetop” with some symbol under it and then XVII (just above the “FINITO” mark)

Left Side of Reciever/Action –
In Script (gold lettering); LA Luigi Francia Bresci” Made In Italy
Left Side of Barrel –
S. p. A. Luigi Francia Brescia Made in Italy 12 GA. Mod.
Right Side of Barrel –
Stoeger Arms Corporation New York Made in Italy
Right Side angled area Under Receiver/Action –
Stampings of (in line one after the other):
(1) What appears to be FNITD (or FNTD?) w/tree top above.
(2) What appears to be PSF (or ASF?) w/two tree tops? Above.
(3) What appears to be a “Coat of Arms” w/treetop above
Bottom of Receiver/Action –
Stamping of a hunter, with a “blunderbuss”?
Stamped number: 055587
Base of Grip affixed with Phillips head screw –
S.P.A. Luigi Franchi Brescia Made in Italy
Butt Plate –
S.p.A. L.FRANCHI brescia
Barrel (Vented/Ribbed) Has Adjustable (Vented) Choke Stamped (gold tone) – Deluxe Hartford Conn. Pat. Pend. Poly-Choke w/settings for –
MOD, IMP MOD, FULL, X-FULL, SLUG, IMP CYL
[Now I can't seem to attach pictures!]

I posted my question several days ago and received confirmation of the posting. Checking my "posts", I supposedly have 4 replies to the first in a different forum and 17 in this forum. However, no matter what I try I see no replies. I've tried reaching the moderator and "shotgunworld.com" itself with no luck. If anyone can help me figure out how to read the "replies" I would appreciated it. Hopefully, I would be able to find the response.
