I recently purchased a Benelli Montefeltro. Any Monte owners, please let me know how the hell I am supposed to remove the magazine plug. The manual says nothing about it, and the exploded diagram doesn't give me much help. It looks like I would have to unscrew the magazine tube from the reciever, but I tried to do that and couldn't budge it. I don't really want to put a wrench on my new fancy shotgun, so please help.
Ben

There's a cap on the end of the magazine that can be removed by prying it out with a screwdriver, or squeezing it with needle-nose plyers. It's not hard to do. Be carefull when you do this - the mag spring will shoot out pretty fast if you lose control of the cap when it comes out.

It's just an aluminum rod that slides out when you remove the forend cap---NO SPRINGS INVOLVED----really simple amd easy.

The Montefeltro is slightly different from the M1 Super 90 as there is a bolt or a much smaller tube that the cap threads onto, there appears from the parts diagram to be a limiting pin p/n 067A in tav 12 or 14 that is inside that smaller tube?
Not sure if any of the local shops have a montefeltro or not, I'll drop by and see.

Right click on the manual or parts diagram and then save target to save the PDF file to your computer, these are the same type diagrams that gunparts has for sale, just from the Benelli page for free.

I think the Benelli's plug is small enough to fit through the hole in the cap that holds the spring in the mag tube. However, my SBE, and my dad's Monte had the plug installed such that you had to remove the cap to get the plug out. Either way, it's not a big problem to remove.

My mistake...that was my brother-in-law's M1 that had the retainer under the mag cap. Dad's Monte has that hollow bolt with the aluminum rod for the plug. We were cleaning them all, and I had my memory crossed up...

Hello all you Montefeltro experts - please post a small review on the 12ga version if you have it or have shot it. I'm considering this Benelli vs the Browning Fusion and am at a toss-up. Its main use will be pheasant and jumped duck hunting, rarely clays. Thanks, Doc.

Our Guest above is right, just remove the forearm/barrel, turn the receiver so that the mag tube points toward the floor, and the plug should fall out without any hassle whatsoever. The plug is just a 1/4" aluminum rod that feeds in through the barrel hanger lug.
As far as the review is concerned, I have a pair of Benelli Sports in my safe, which are Monte's with a few extra bells & whistles- the meat is all the same. I don't have any negatives to say about the Fusion at all, but my Sports are utterly smooth, reliable and sweet shooting guns. While I clean after every few outings, they don't require it to stay absolutely troubleproof after a shot volume way higher than I ever let a shotgun go between cleanings. Some folks don't care for the recoil pulse it takes to operate the Benellis, but I don't even notice it, and actually find the lack of receiver clatter (a'la Remington) to be better for my concentration.

I bought my son (14 yrs) a Monti last year in 20 guage and it's the sweetest auto I ever shot. Light as a feather (5lb., 10 oz).
In fact, I'm going to sell my 11-87 Rem in 20 guage and roll the cash over onto a M-1. Very well made.

I just happened to be browsing the site and noticed this subject.
Sounds like the question is, "How do I get inside the magazine tube to remove a plug." If that is the case, here is how it is done: 1. remove the forend.
2. take a firm grip on the reciever with the left hand.
3. take a firm grip on the magazine tube with the right
hand.
4. turn left to loosey.
5. the magazine tube will magically unscrew.
6. be careful that the spring doesn't launch the
magazine tube.
7. once removed, take the plug out!
