Who has actually bought Hevi-Shot for reloading and how much does the shot itself cost. I've only been able to find a couple places that sell it online and I've seen prices like $159 for a 10 pound bag. WOW

That means if you load a 1 1/4oz load the shot alone will cost you about $1.25 a shell.

Come on, this stuff can't be THAT expensive to make.

Hmmmm... Another excellent reason for 3/4 oz. 12 gauge loads.

(Just disregard that, folks -- it's a private joke between John and me.)

Alllrighty then. I was just curious and looking around and was shocked by the price. No wonder the Remington loaded "Wingmaster HD" is $4 a shell.

You never need more than 1 ounce of no. 6's. That is just over 200 pellets. That is still a dollar a shot for the shot but the shot is by far the most expensive component. I already have the hulls. Wads are cheap. Powder lasts a long time. If I had to buy it instead of reload it with the cost doubling for loaded shells if I had to pay better than 2 dollars a shot I would switch to all steel.

Mostly I agree. I got #30 HS when it was $120. It is all loaded. When it is used I will not buy any more unless the price comes down. The reason I want to use HS is less shells per bird. There is a 25-shell limit at California refuges. I can not always shoot a limit of ducks with 25 steel shells. I can do it easily with HS. Since I do mostly walk in refuge hunts, to replenish my shell supply means a long walf back to the car. They fine you if you bring in more than 25. So I can watch over my shoulder, walk back to the car, or use HS.

You need to come see me, Alberta is not as good as Saskstchewan, but you can easily shoot a couple boxes of Steel in the morning and a couple more at dusk. Generous bag limits and several different Ducks and Geese all coming into a field spread, make for alot of walking, If you had to. We use Quads and Pick-ups

Perhaps the question should be: is it worth the price?

IMHO, yes, it is. But, I would love it even more if it were cheaper.
