Guys I have a buckshot reloading manual from ballistic products that mentions 000 buck can be loaded in the 10 gauge in 3 pellet layers to 5 or 6 high. Unless I am misreading it 18 pellets is over 2&3/4 oz. I have no complaints if it is possible but noticed the book did not include any powder data for such a heavy payload in the back. Wondering is someone could shed an opinion on the situation.

Thanks,
Karl.

Well I' guess the mods and admin are too busy making sure the forums are neat and tidy to worry about a potential safety issue in an established load manual. So anyone else knows whether this sort of payload is possible in a 10 ga let me know.

I guess I could just make up my own powder charge for this load.Trial and error might be the best way to test safety on the world's largest shotgunning forum.

Typically, unless someone has first-hand experience in the matter for which a question is directed, they will not respond. That is actually responsible, really.

I did a little research on Alliant's website and found this load. It isn't exactly what you were aking about ( 000-buck), but is for 0-buck, instead. Oddly enough, in the 3.5" 10 gauge, it says you get 17 pellets of 0-buck:

Win209 Primer
Winchester Western Plastic Hull
17 pellets, 0-buck
SP10 Wad
51 grains, Alliant Blue Dot
1300fps

The data is out there, you just need to use Google a little more.

Thanks but 2 ounce 0 buck load is pretty common. 000 buck is 50% heavier per pellet which means 3 ounces is where the drama is.

Actually its a good point you make about first hand experience and one I have made to moderators before is that the reloading forum is not actually a good place for some questions- primarily because it is high use and mainstream, the tough or rare questions will get ignored and move down the page quick.

For example looks like I got this question answered on another forum that has nothing to do with reloading shot at all.

You've got my curiosity peaked now, though. I'll do some poking around and see what reload data I can come up with for this load you speak of.

I load this particular recipe. I have had great results using it. I havent found a load that calls out 18 pellets of 000B, and I wouldnt use even if so. I would think is would be slow as a pig!

With the 15 000B load mentioned above, Im using Hornady's 000B, which measures in at 0.35" vice the std 0.36". It lightens the load quite abit, so Im hoping the velocity rises. I havent chrono'd it yet.

I have a test plate, 20" dia cut from 3/8" steel. Consistantly at 40 yards, I place 8 pellets on steel. I shoot a BPS-10 28" barrel, with a Kicks GT 0.680" choke tube. I feel its a bit too tight, but for now, the results are nothing short of meat on the table for 4 of my deer this year...

If you crammed things together like they do in the 12 ga. 3" & 3.5" loads, you can get 3 oz. of lead in a 10 ga. with no problem, but I have to agree with the guy above that asked, "why would you want to?" To get that many big pellets in a hull, you have to leave something out, usually shot protection. The efficiency of the load goes down. I get much better results from adding buffer than trying to cram a couple more pellets in the hull. Back when lead was legal, I shot a lot of 2.5 oz. loads. I gradually started switching to lighter loads & found the 1 5/8 oz. load very good (with shot, not buckshot)
