I bought one of these back in the late 80's(the combo package). Mine came with a smooth bore(24") slug barrel and a 28" VR barrel with chokes. It has worked under some pretty harsh conditons and continues to go into the field with me today. I've always wanted to try that cantilever system and cheek piece. It looks like it ought to line everything right up where it belongs.

Let us know how that slug barrel works. My smooth bore will keep foster style slugs(Federal or Winchester 1oz) under 2" at 50 yds.

Gander has the "almost" same thing in their sales flyer this week. No scope and no cheek pieces. Now I know these are cheap parts but still Gander is advertising the Mossy combo on sale at $299 which is $50 more(?). Dick's prices around here smoke Gander on a regular basis :!:

In the past week at Dick's we picked up a Marlin 336 scoped combo($299), a Remington 870 Super Mag that was a Dick's special run with the green barrel in camo($300) and the Mossy($250). Damn addictions....

Remy has a $30 rebate on the 870 and Dick's offered up a $25 gift card on the same gun.

Those pricey guns like the SBE2 are nice but for the same price I'd rather have the three mentioned and hundreds still in the bank. Son called and I'm heading out for some Monday evening goose with the Mossy.

I hope you had fun hunting with it Wildwing.

Not to brag, but Dick's is the largest store of their type in the country. I know we get a lot of special deals on guns. We don't make much on a gun sale, but they do make it up on the extra's. Like a new sling, a hard case/soft case. If you saw the markup on some of those you'd be amazed!

But the cheek piece on the mossy is great, I wish my 835 had one, I'm thinking of getting one of the slip on models, for deer season.

The 12 GA Model 500 stocks and the 835 stocks are interchangable, I'm not sure about the 20 GA model 500 stock.

I don't know how much they would charge but you could probably buy one from Mossberg's customer service (1-800-363-3555)

Anyone know who the scope supplier is to Mossberg? Picked up a Marlin 336 recently and it was also a scoped combo from Dick's Sporting Goods.

The scopes came in the same silver box for each gun. The logo on the scopes looks like Simmons but I have to believe it's from some other place. They seem like decent scopes and for the price of the combos I can swap them for something else down the road and still have a good deal on the guns.

Whoever it is supplies both companies.

I recently bought a Mossberg .270 and it had a "Mossberg" scope on it, I did a little searching and the cope is identical to a TASCO Model# DWC39X40N right down to the set screws. TASCO probably just re-labels them.

I don't know if their rifle & shotgun scopes are made by the same company but it would make sense that they would be...

Thanks. As mentioned it was odd that the Marlin and Mossy came with scopes in the same type packages and both scopes were similiar no-names. I'll take that clue and search through Tasco for details.

I know my store has Simmons on there's, some of the older ones have Tasco's. But the new stuff that came in the past few weeks has been having Simmons on them.

I have a Simmons 2.5 on mine and it's great. It didn't come with the gun I put it on for like $40 at the time. But I'll never replace that scope unless it breaks. It stays true and sucks up the light!

I bought the 12 gauge combo models for my 2 sons. The scopes are only 2.5X and have a small field of view, you may find that you would rather replace it. Other than that they have been very good shotguns and are tough to beat at that price. The cheek pieces change very easily as do the barrels. I also bought hard sided gun cases for them to help keep the scopes zeroed-in. 1 gun for all around use. My Mossberg is about 30 years old and has never failed me or even given me a problem. Good cleaning and reasonable care should result in the same results for you. The thing I liked most about the purchase is that it freed up my money to make other purchases toward a successful first year hunting season, and after all, isn't that what it's all about?

Are there other resaonably well made/priced 12 gauge pump combos anyone would recommend besides Mossberg? I'm looking for a smaller (18") short barrel. Higher capacity and lowest weight would be my other variables. Home protection, ocassional basic range training with a youth and clay pigeon. $ up to perhaps $400 or so.

Mossberg also sells a field/security combo with 18.5" and 28" barrels.

Remington sells 870 combos.
