Looking for information as to who really made these and about what they are worth. New to O/U and looking to enter without the high dollar entry of the big names for now. Reading through SGW, I've found VERY little about American Arms. Found even less on-line and at the bookstore. Got one here in a Pawn and Gun shop that they and I don't know much about.

Amercan Arms is an importer and declared bankruptcy several years ago during a class action lawsuit over quality problems with this particular model. The company was bought by Tri-Star. I had an Italian Silver II which which had several parts break and had problems getting it fixed. My normal gunsmiths refused to work on it and I finally found someone to fix it. Several companies made the Silver series, at least two in Italy (the one that made mine and the one involved in the lawsuit) and one in Spain (a buddy's father has one). I am not a fan of them and would only buy one if it was inexpensive enough to be considered a "throw away" if something went wrong.

Spanish made, I believe it would be mid-80's or earlier. My buddy's dad bought his new in 1980. I am leery of some imports, many have a firearm made to meet a certain price and the availability of parts can be very uncertain due to the uncertainty of maker and product support. AA is one of these, the nearest listed repair facility would not work on mine as they were the authorized repair facility for a different maker of AA arms, not my guns maker. The only listed authorized repair facility that would work on mine was half way across the country and all told would have cost me nearly $250 to have the gun shipped, insured, and repaired. This was for a $400 dollar gun. Not worth it in my eyes. As I am not fond of AA by any means, you can take my opinion with a bag of salt.

The Silver Series is CURRENTLY made in Spain by Zabala Hermanos. Decent looking gun. The Silver may have been Italian that were imported earlier but the recent models are Spanish.

As stated, the current Silver series of guns are made by Zabala of Spain but they are imported under the Tri-Star banner, not AA. I'm reading that this gun is an AA import therefore would be at least a good 15 years old. I believe these were made in Eibar, kind of Spain's eqivalent to Brescia, Italy.

uglydog-
The importer is the odd part. This thing looks New In Box, the box even looks new. There is an large AA sticker over the end of the box, and I can see some spanish printed under the sticker. If this helps, its a model 32126 according to the the sticker. I just e-mailed tri-star to ask their take on this gun. On their website, the Tri-star Silver II looks just like this AA Silver II, and on the Zabala web site the Suprema looks exactly the same down to the engraving.

My best guess is AA may have changed maufacturers again just before or while they were in bankrutcy proceedings. That was right about 2000. The first Tri-Stars I saw were Spanish made and had their name on them so this may be the case. Learn something new everyday. AA was good at keeping the guns looking similar, if not identical. The two different manufacturers that made the Silver II during the late 80's and 90's had identical looking guns. I want to say the silver "sideplates" were actually brazed, welded, or glued to the gun and not a plating as I seem to recall a thin line on the underside of the reciever where the side and bottom plates meet up. I may be thinking of another "inexpensive" gun I owned so don't quote me. I got rid of mine in 2001 and had not touched it for about 3 years before that so my memory may be faulty. The model numbers don't help me, I never knew what mine were, just that it was a Silver II. The box was a silverish color with the edges trimmed in a kind of baby blue. I don't remember if the writing was in black or the same blue. I do remember it was ugly and the box looked like new when I sold it. I got to quit reminiscing over this gun, I'll start getting nightmares again.
