Other than $400 in suggested retail price, and the ability to shoot 3.5 inch shells, and the camo coating, is there any difference between the 1187 Sportsman and the 1187 SPS Camo?

I'm looking for an 1187 for duck hunting. My preference would be for a camo gun with a 28 inch barrel that will handle 3 inch shells.

Based on the most recent online version of the catalog, that is no longer an option, and if I want a camo gun I can only get it in a 26" barrel, and only with a 3.5 inch chamber.

Am I missing something? Is this the early stages of phasing out the 1187 altogether? The Premier grade guns seem to be gone too.

Wal-Mart carries an 11-87 sportsman in camo with a 28" bbl. At least the one near me does, b/c my friend just got one there about a month ago for $599.95.

Brookie, I looked at the specs on Remmington's web and they are identical as far as weight and dimensions. If I remember correctly (thats a big if) from a previous post the Sportsman does not have a Light Contour barrel and the SPS has a slightly heavier reciever. That would explain the same weight. My Sportsman is heavier & the balance is definately more forward than my friends 11-87 Premier, both are 12ga with 28" barrels. I guess it all comes down to the balance of the gun.I had an 870 3 1/2" SPS cammo & now own an 11-87 Sportsman cammo. Fit and finish were very comparable. I got the 870 SPS for the ability to shoot 3 1/2 shells and never did. It was a no brainer for me, I took the savings and bought the 11-87 Sportsman over the 11-87 SPS. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

I spent more time on the website and am now even more confused than before.

The (enormous, very slow download) online catalog suggests I can order a 3 inch camo version with 28 inch barrel. The website info suggests otherwise. I guess what really matters is what I can find locally.

I think Dick's has a very low price right now (~$450) on the non-camo Sportsman. They had at least one camo gun on the rack when I saw that, but I didn't note the price.

Wallyworld's on line guns catalogs has the camo versions at around $800. They are also still listing Premiere's in both 20 and 12 gauge.

Go visit Wal-Mart.

They have the Remington 11-87 Sportsman, fully camo'd, 12 gauge, 28" barrel, 3 inch magnum shotgun, everyday low price of $529.00.
