I am planning to upgrade my K80 and purchase a higher grade one (i.e. San Remo). When I order the gun, I can request for a specific engraver. Currently I am considering Schlott or Nonn. Are there any other Krieghoff engravers I should consider?

Regards,

I'm sure your dealer told you that requesting a specific engraver will typically add considerable time to receiving your gun. I personally prefer Katherine Nonn over Harald Schlott but they are extremely comparable. You should google their names to get examples of their work and you can judge for yourself. Each engraver has their own style, strengths, and weaknesses. Like most art, everything is completely subjective to different tastes, whims, and budgets.

To answer your last question, in many people's opinion, including mine, Jana Schilling is the best in-house engraver Krieghoff is currently using. I've been told her project list is currently very long.

Thanks for the reply sujumanji. From what I have seen, both Nonn and Schlott produce quality products. But occasionally I see pictures of K80 engravings that seem a bit cartoonish and that I would like to avoid. I will study up on Schilling. Thanks for the info.

Regards,

Go to Paxton's website and look at his 2 Crown grade by Heym. He has done 2 for me and they are great. Dockwiller did a stock for the first one and he said that was the best scroll work he has seen since Reich. He has been doing top end Krieghoffs since the 60's.

I am personally a big fan of Chris Kieser who engraved my gun. I really love the fact that they are not deep engravings. Take a look at some pictures of it if that helps:

Thanks for the link Nicolas. The engraving done by Chris Kieser look great!!!

I have learned that Schlott is about to retire thus he is taking no new projects. Schilling has a wait list that may be as long as 2 years. Thus I was leaning towards Nonn but I will have to look into Kieser.

yhc

I hope Kieser still works because my gun was engraved in 2001... 18 years ago. But I really like the style.

Thank you all for your replies. I placed my order and asked for Katherine Nonn to engrave my next K80. ETA is in May 2020. Looking forward to shooting the new gun next year!!

Just FYI, I am told that Schlott is retiring soon thus is not taking any new orders. Also Schilling's backlog, as mentioned by sujumaji above, is about 18 months long.

Regards,

Now my K80 San Remo is in early stage of production. I have received a few pictures of the receiver in production that I would like to share. It has an engraving of my hunting buddy, a wirehaired pointing griffon, on the bottom of the receiver. It will be fully engraved by K. Nonn and the ETA remains Apr/May 2020.

yhc

Thanks Chasd3. I am quite excited how it’s turning out. I now have to pick out the furniture for it. I have received pictures of a few options to choose from....

Yhc,
That is one NICE K-80 San Remo, No. 1 engraving.
I have a K-80 Parcours & a K-80 Sporter that Katherine Nonn performed a beautiful Bavaria Royale engraving, and IMO she is simply the BEST.
Best,

Yes my K80 San Remo is now completed and received by my dealer. It was delayed a couple months due to Krieghoff closing down earlier this year due to the pandemic.

I am very happy with how the engraving has turned out on R&I. I agree Breakemall, Katherine Nonn is one of the best. My dealer and I are finalizing stock selection. Once that's done then I will have it delivered to my FFL.

The last picture is the actual image of my griff next to the receiver in earlier stage.

Regards,

yhc
