I hope someone can help...I have a Franchi 20 guage semi auto model 48, 50 thousand series. I am having intermittent problems with ejection mechanism failure. The shell will not come out of the gun thus causing the next one to jam. I use sporting clay hi velocity low brass shells. Any suggestions or gun repair shops recommended. I would be glad to send away for repairs. The local, Arizona, repair centers won't work on it. Any help will be appreciated.

How clean is the whole gun?

Assuming your gun has been taken apart and thoroughly cleaned, I would try shooting a box of Winchester AA to see if the problem is related to the shells you are using.

I am not familiar with your gun. I do see Beretta 391s (auto loader) fail to eject when they get really gummed up inside. I also see them fail to eject with low recoil shells and with cheap shells with brass that expands too much when fired.

Do you have the friction rings set correctly for light loads? If you aren't sure, READ THE MANUAL! Long-recoil autos require it.

ditto bobk. also, have you lubed any part of the gas operating system? people tend to want to lube those parts because they always look dirty. they just need to be kept clean and dry. don't confuse clean with lubed. swab everything down with acetone. lube the points listed in the manual. leave everything else (no matter how dirty looking) dry. see what happens. good luck with it

No gas parts on an AL48 since it's Long Recoil operated.

Check the extractor. That is the only thing that ever caused me to have a problem. It was worn badly. Cost $12 to repair. It slips out easily and the new one slides right in. With that many rounds downrange, the extractor will be worn some and won't eject the empties every time.

If you have a problem finding one, take a dremel and sharpen and shape yours up so that the claw will grab the shell rims good. Parts are hard to find for the 20 guage.

Even though your chamber looks clean, it may not be. It may need the "oiled steel wool, wrapped around a brass brush, on an alluminum cleaning rod in an electric drill" treatment. Although I've never had a shell stick in a 48AL, it has happened to me in a pump before.

Nepsky, don't keep us in limbo. Tell us what you did. That is if you've solved the problem. I learn a lot from other's misfortunes. When you're back in business, give us an update.

thanks you everyone for your input. I have done everything that has been suggested and will try out the shotgun during the july 4th holiday. I'll let you know the results soon there after. Again your input helps. Gun is clean, friction rings adjusted correctly, oiled yet not over lubed etc...More later. Nepsky

Is there a live round in the chamber?

Is this a semi-auto gun?

Does the trigger feel like it is set and ready to be pulled, or does the trigger feel like it has already been pulled?

Are there any live rounds ANYWHERE in the gun?

What kind/brand/type of load was last fired in the gun?

Is this the empty shell that's stuck in the chamber?
