Fielder, the installation of the threads in the barrel is the same - you just buy flush tubes or extended ones as you prefer, and you can switch from one to the other.

My Stevens single shot barrel just came in. I had it threaded, and a bead sight installed. Turnaround was fast, and the work is great. Sure, I just doubled my investment in this one, but it's what I wanted. Thanks, Mike!

Regards, Dutch

Add me to the list of happy customers. At the recommendation of a friend I sent my L C Smith barrels to Mike to be opened up for clay target shooting. I sent them last Monday and received them back this Monday. I requested both barrels bored the same, and that is what I got.
I am eager to shoot the gun. Hopefully, my scores will improve.
I wonder if Mike offers any adjustments to the shooter; if so I want to be first in line.

He doesn't answer questions on here or email. You'll need to call him on the phone.

Just a quick follow-up. Mike had my barrel back to me in no time. It was only a week from when my barrel was sent out till it was back on my porch.

My choke arrived yesterday and threaded right in.

I would not hesitate to deal with him again.

Thanks!

As I've posted before, the best way to work with Mike seems to be:

1. Send him only the part that needs working on, i.e. just the barrel.

2. Enclose a very brief written note of what YOU want done; he doesn't need to be told WHAT to do, just what you want changed, e.g. "Open fixed choke to I.C."

3. Enclose a personal check, or MO if you prefer, for the work done per the latest price sheet above + return shipping/insurance in the amount you paid to send it to him.

He'll reuse the container you sent to him, so make it round trip worthy. I find cardboard mailing tubes work well for barrels, padded with newspaper. Probably don't want bubble wrap on blued steel + humidity.

4. He doesn't seem to worry about waiting for the check to clear. If he wants to raise his prices, I imagine he'll post a new price sheet.

5. Add your SGW screen name to your note to get his discount.

6. Don't bother him on the phone. He keeps his prices low and service quick because he works hard and doesn't chew the fat.

7. His work is perfect. You won't have to send it back.

I didn't know how much to send him because I was unsure if the particular work could be done on what I had sent him....

You can try to call and ask, but I've never been successful at that. One time I had a similar issue as you, Up, no answer, wrote a note and guessed at a price, shoved the check, note, and bbl into a mailing tube, and figured he would bill me.

Got the bbl back just right, the check cleared, I never heard a word back.

We're so used to having to "build an account profile" that is a shocker when the service is just focused on the task at hand, rather than constructing an administrative empire.

Just image of the govt did that!

I got my Remington 870 barrel back from Mike today. Less than a week turn around time even though I used USPS to mail it to Mike because my local UPS "Store" would not ship gun parts.
The workmanship it top shelf for sure. Thanks Mike

I'm thinking my Ithaca 51 barrel is going next.

Well this is a bit more confusing than it should be. Mike said I needed "True Choke tubes" to fit my threads. I want to use an extended tube (just because I like the look). What brand / vendor is everybody using? I don't want to get the wrong style thread pattern and have to send it back. I'm seeing so many choices it's making my brain hurt. Help!

Mike sells Trulock and Colonial Arms chokes, and though you don't have to buy them from him, that's what he threads for.

Google their websites and see if you like their offerings. If not, you may want to send the gun elsewhere.

Some older guns the bbl is too thin to thread for any other brand. You can always have a fixed choke opened to a lighter fixed setting, i.e. Full to IC, by Mike.

Awesome work Mike! Very happy.

Extra 11-48 barrel, 28" full. I had shortened to 26 and choke tubes installed.

Very nice work, now I just need to rust blue it and the receiver.

Michael, I requested info on getting a choke tube installed in a rem. 410 barrel. You sent my your price list and I sent $75.00 for the work and mailing. My question is did I miss something and owe you more money. The installation was fifty five dollars, no mention of tube to be installed cost unless I just overlooked something.

If I owe you more let me know soon as you can so I can send it to you.

I doubt he'll reply here. Calling him seems to work better.

Not sure how long ago you sent yours in, but I also had a 410 with tubes installed and I mailed it in back in early June and just got it back this week. I called him a couple weeks ago and apparently the 410 choke tubes were backordered or delayed for some reason.

Cost of threading is $55, tubes are $29 each, and then return shipping is $20, so looks like you would owe him a bit more. I'd call his shop. He never returned my messages I left on the machine, but when I caught him at the shop he answered my questions quickly. He seems to be more of a worker than a talker/customer service guy.

No problem with that at all.

Work was top notch. I'll be using him again.
