I have a Beretta 303 With cracked forend wood. The inside of the forend has a layer of carbon/oil exhaust that needs to be removed before I can repair the crack... Any ideas of what I can use to remove the coating of carbon/oil from the wood?

Just send it to Doug Carpenter and he will perform magic on the forearm and fix it up real good. I have seen several stocks that he has refinished and repaired and the guy is a wizard. http://www.ccgunstocks.com/

I wouldn't bother with the carbon/oil exhaust coating - just dig out the crack narrowly, to insure the sides inside the crack is clean wood before epoxying the crack.
The epoxied crack can be made to disappear if you mix in some sawdust, taken/made from the buttstock wood under the buttpad, into the epoxy before applying it to the crack.

Appreciate the suggestions on how to get the forend fixed...I wish I had the funds to have a pro do it, but may have to settle with my own labor...assisted by some YouTube videos, of course.

Any ideas of what I can use to remove the coating of carbon/oil from the wood? Try acetone remover. may ruin the finish.if you get it on the outside
