I bought a new SXS from Stoeger. When it came one of the choke skirts was wrecked. Upon removal I noticed a bead of metal near the choke barrel lip. Do you think Stoeger can fix this or should I request new barrels?

Send it back!

I certainly will send it back because this is dangerous. But my question to gunsmiths was if that bead were removed, then would not the lip still be compromised and expose the skirt to oncoming traffic?

Being a Stoeger, I really doubt you'll be able to DICTATE the outcome. Send it back, and they'll repair or replace at their prerogative.

Stoeger is replacing the whole shotgun, not trying to fix it or replace the barrels.

Wow. The Brazilian factory has been closed, and Stoeger has no stock of any coach guns. I might see a replacement this year. As to how a gun with a barrel obstruction made it to market, endangering a buyer, like most companies importing, they sample a selection for QC and pass all if those pass. Time for a QC process review Stoeger. Needless to say, please self inspect and clean any new firearm for those new buyers out there. Be safe.

I received my replacement coach gun from Stoeger today, September 11. So a lot sooner than I expected given the situation. They test fired the gun before sending it too. All the Benelli staff were polite and helpful as they could be along the way.

I guess that means Stoegers are not proofed?

Yes they are. U.S. built shotguns do not have to be proofed. Slow down. The jump from "what do I do ?" to expert usually takes a bit more than 4 months.

I am rethinking my position on the proof. I now think the gun was proofed and that caused the destruction of the choke. I had not examined the picture clearly.
