I recently installed a new recoil spring follower while I was in there replacing a bolt slide buffer. My question is: how would you rate the condition of the old one pictured here on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being new and 10 being trashed and un-useable. Is the one I have pictured worth keeping as a spare? Was it bad enough to warrant being replaced?

I would give it at least an “8”. They will look like that after only a few boxes of shells. I’ve never seen one so bad that it would not hold the bolt rod in place. I would keep it for a spare. The one in the picture seems to be in pretty good condition.

I would keep it as a spare. You can always turn it 180 degrees to start a new.
