Since a quick search of the site provided no results. I have two Beretta 686's that I'd like to do a barrel swap on. So I need a qualified 'smith to confirm both can be fitted and then do the work. Cole's pricing has skyrocketed, now at $250 per barrel, so I'm looking for a more reasonable price on a pretty routine job. TIA.

I would think “routine” is putting on a new bead. Fitting a barrel is more complicated.

Buyer beware, you get what you pay for.

Check out Midwest Gun Works, IMO Coles IS the place, they'd done a lot of work on my 682 Gold Super Sporting.

Fitting a beretta bbl isnt particulary difficult. Primarily it involves stoning the ejector tips to set timing and stoning the back face of the bbl lug to set how tight the forearm fits.

If its a bbl that has already been fit to a receiver it can be more complicated if the ejector tips or the forearm lug are short of material.

$500 + two way shipping on 2 shotguns is a budget buster for my bird gun project.

If it is actually two 686 guns I am not sure I see the advantage of a barrel swap. The receivers ought to be pretty much the same. Can you just swap stocks? I have a 20 plus year old 686 and a new 686 and the receivers only differ a little in the roll engraving. Or do we have a straight grip gun or an ulta light or something in the equation? Any way $600 for a swap is a heavy penalty to pay. But getting the barrels messed up would be expensive also. And once swapped they will not swap back if they took off metal.
