Hi all

I recently bought a 1967 police or military Ithaca 37 which is in great condition except the front bead is bent. I got some machine screws from the hardware store to test the treads, and it turns out to be 4-40 TPI. I can't find a replacement bead anywhere!

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

A more likely size is 5-40 and they are readily available.

Go to Midway USA an Ithaca 37 uses a 6-48 thread.

To everyone suggesting it's not 4-40: like I said, I bought machine screws to test it. It 100% is 4-40 TPI (a #5 or #6 screw would not fit). I thought it might be after seeing this thread, where Banshee says military and police Ithacas use that threading.

Anyway, I'm still looking to find this bead (I can't find one on Brownell's). Any help would still be appreciated!

Have you tried Ithaca?

You also might try Les Hovencamp at Diamond Gunsmithing. He was the head gunsmith at Ithaca for years and possibly might have one.

I just called him. He told me no one makes 4-40 beads anymore - he's tried to find them to no avail. Seems I'm out of luck!

I might try turning my own out of a brass machine screw.

I guess if you have a lathe that would be the best option.

Have you considered retapping the hole to a size that a bead is available? I understand why you might not want to modify that gun, but it would be a better option than a bent bead, IMO.

Yeah I'd prefer to not modify the barrel if possible. Hopefully my home-made bead turns out well. I don't have a lathe, but I do have a drill.

I've made parts with a drill and a file before... {hs#

Good luck!
