I have a rem 870 remchoke barrel that shoots low relative to point of aim.

Approximately 100% low.

I have shot it off bags on a shooting bench, and from a couple of different receivers that are know to shoot as they should with their "regular" barrel.

It appears that the choke machining may not be cut true to the bore, based on the un-uniform ridge/ edge I see looking down the barrel (when removed from the rest of the gun)

thoughts on options?

scrap barrel is a fair option if it is the least costly....

I'd trash it in a heartbeat.

The barrel on an 870 is a replaceable part. Buy another and solve the problem.

I would take it to a good gunsmith and have him bend the barrel. I had a 1100 barrel successfully bent many years ago with good results.

There are several options.

Have you tried a different choke tube or does it shoot this way with ALL choke tubes? If it's just one choke tube, then throw that one away.

If it's all choke tubes, then you can put some tape (or something similar) in the bottom unthreaded portion of the choke tube recess in the barrel. You only need to raise the front end of the choke tube by a few thousandths in order to make a noticeable difference in the POI.

Another thing you can do is to use a file or a hone to open up the top portion of the interior of the choke tube in the constricted area. This will help "lift" the pattern, but it may not be perfectly round... depending on how the interior of the choke tube is modified. The problem with this method is that it takes a lot of trial-and-error and you have to do it to every choke tube you use in the gun.

You can also have the barrel bent. This will work, but I hear that sometimes the barrel will return to its original shape/contour.

You can add something to the top of the receiver that raises your eye which will effectively raise the POI of the gun. The gun won't actually shoot differently. It will just force you to "aim" differently.

You can add a completely new rib on top of the barrel that will compensate for the low shooting POI. This is similar to adding something to the top of the receiver in that it forces the shooter to aim/point the gun differently.

Or, you can cut off the choke tube area and make a riot barrel out of it. Then buy a barrel that shoots more to your liking. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Return the barrel to Remington.
I have had the same problem in the past, and remington replaced the barrel for me. When Remington first came out with the rem choke barrels, I noticed some of the 12ga barrels did not appear to have the chokes installed concentric to the bore. Don't know if this is still a problem or not, but I would sure try returning it for a replacement.
The one thing I did notice was that it was only the 12ga barrels that had the issue, never saw a 20ga that wasn't installed correctly.
