Hi

any ideas on freeing up a stuck detent ball in the barrel/ magazine ring on an 870?

picked up a used barrel recently.

it is stuck in the extended position and will not move.

I tried squeezing with a BIG channel lock pliers and no movement.

thinking a soak in pentrating oil might help but this thing is looks like it is not interested in moving.

thanks

I have never run across one Kroil would not free up, but you may have. Always allow some time for the penetrant to work before applying big force.

I put some Kroil on it after the squeeze did not work and left it to sit.

If you can't free it, get a new detent before you drill out the old one so you can make sure you only drill out what you need, because you will need to re-stake it unless you decide to just go with an O ring.

A wave washer holds by cutting into a surface. An O ring just deformes and grips.

not sure we are talking about the same kind of wavy washer...

https://www.mcmaster.com/wave-washers/c ... c-springs/

not sure how this one would cut into the surface,

I think I know of another style you are referring to though.
