I have a Beretta SP1, bought last summer, fired 1000+ rounds during summer and fall.no problem.

After I bought it I took the stock off and cleaned with rem action cleaner, oil with synthetic and blew the excess.

This winter 20 F, after 25 rounds, on a station after 2 shots, I tried to open to reload, no way....I play with the selector....finally it opens....

What can cause the lever to be blocked or jammed and why it umlocked?

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Time to remove the stock and look, avoid all the fool guesswork.

I preface this by saying that I am not a gunsmith, but I have had more than my share of time mucking about inside of Beretta receivers.

That gun has a fussy little cam assembly integrated into the top lever assembly. If the internal cam splits all sorts of screwy things happen with locking and unlocking the breech.

A good indication of a broken internal cam is having some play in the top lever when the gun is closed and locked.

Just for information, after you got the gun opened, did you load and shoot the gun again? If so, what happened?

After I managed to open the breech. I didn't reload and shoot.

Went back home, take the stock out, clean with rem action cleaner, blow the excess, with a cotton swab with break free put lube all around delicately and blow with air again.

next day went for a round of skeet, all was fine.

So what did happen?

PS
a week before my friend used the SP, shot a first round tried to shoot the 2nd round: nothing, no bang...tried to open the breech....impossible, tried the selector nothing
a guy around said bump the stock to simulate recoil ...we did that and bang. After that a round of skeet and all was perfect. ????
