We have a Sporting team of 4, three OF's and one young man with family who shoots an A-5. Sat. at a shoot his rib turned loose from the front bead back about 10". His work took him to Houston Mon. and he carried the bbl. to Briley and they told him it was a Simmons rib & he needed to send it back to them to fix. When he asked for an estimate the Briley smith replied $4-600 he thought. The gun is a 1966 Belgium regular 12 ga. Like most middle-class families they are struggling with kids in school and such & he is asking us OF's what we would do, have this one fixed or find a different one that would fit possibly with screw chokes for about the same money? Would a Miroku A-5 12 ga. bbl. fit a Belgium gun?

Any recommendations of a good smith who could re-solder the rib for less money? 1cas

.

I'd try to secure the loose rib with a (very) careful application of epoxy.

Failing that, extra barrels may be had from any number of barrel vendors (google: 12ga browning A-5 barrel for sale)

If it was me, I’d call Simmons and find out exactly what they’d charge. Then I’d call Art’s to hear what they say. And though it’s a like searching for a unicorn, I’d look for a local gunsmith I could trust.

I would take off the barrel and do a close inspection. A Good cleaning with acetone and a good epoxy or loctite.

Yes a Mirokou barrel WILL PROBABLY fit that gun, there is always the very small risk of some minor tolerance stack up making some fine fitting needed.

A friend has a 1957 IIRC FN that has TWO Mirokou barrels on/for it. A fixed Mod and one with a Multi-Choke. Someone's former Cajun Duck Murderer.

Loctite Black Max 380 will do the job.
