I'm considering a new CG woodlander, 20g. I'm also looking at the Beretta SP and possibly a Zoli.
I realize it's largely personal fit and preference, so my question is simply for others who own the woodlander. Do you like the gun and feel it was a good value? I'm concerned that its the 'entry level' gun, and therefore might not be a good choice.
I'll be using the gun mostly for pheasant but would like to start trap.
I'm only a week into searching, but may make the purchase this week. Any and all feedback is appreciated!
I also looked into a woodlander this past fall. There were none in the pipeline when I started checking and I didn't want to search assorted dealers to find one. That may not be the case now. I also looked at the summit sporting for the same purpose. Unless you want short barrels, that might be an option. I like the way the summit handles some better. I also like the butt pad better as well as the extended chokes. That being said, I bought a Beretta SP in 20 w/ 30" Bbls. Purely for economic reasons. It was considerably less expensive and does a great job. JMHO shoot well. ...j.
I have been shooting a 20ga tempio with 28" barrels for the last 3-4 years that I bought used. It is the same gun as the Woodlander only with different finish and engraving. I shoots he gun for clays weekly: skeet, 5 stand and sporting. I have hunted dove and pheasant with it each of the last 3 years in Ohio and grouse/woodcock in Michigan. Mine is 6.75 lbs and carries well, points fast in the uplands but does not beat me up on the clays course with 7/8 oz loads. I did have a recoil pad fit by a gunsmith due to the amount of clay shooting I do with the gun. I could not be happier with the quality and performance of the gun. It points very naturally and the geometry of the stock is perfect for me. I believe the length of pull on these is 14 3/4". Get your hands on one and see how it feels. If it fits I don't think you will be disappointed in the quality. At the time I purchased I was between it and a silver pigeon 2. I feel that aesthetically the CG's come with better wood than their like model Beretta's, but that is subjective and I would have been happy with either on that account. The silver pigeon did not fit me as well and that was my primary reason for going with the Tempio.
I have been shooting a woodlander 20 ga for 3 yrs rec. skeet shooting once a week and field use I bought mine because they make a left hand version . Fit and finnish is excellent no problem with the mechanics being there entry level gun does not mean it lacks quality . I have owened Brownings and berrettas it is a better handling gun for me then those mentioned . The only thing to be carefull of is u may want the 12 ga to make a set that's what happened to me
I bought a 20ga. Woodlander with 30" barrels last year and it has quickly become my favorite shotgun. I also have a 12 ga. Summit Sporting with 32" bbls., but I find myself shooting clays with the 20 more than the 12. The stock is longer than Berettas, which gives more option in stock fitting. I've shot Browning and Berettas extensively and like the CG much better (imagine that opinion on a CG forum). I find the quality and fit much better on the CG and the customer support is the best in the industry.
Only the 12g newer guns use the Maxis chokes.
My 20 g Woodlander, Tempio and Magnus all use Selecta.
I hope this helps.
