I found a 1963 vintage listing for Armas Celta-Borchers, P.O. Box 22, Guernica, Spain. They built a variety of game guns.in 12, 16, 20, 28 & .410 bore. Their models ranged from a hammer single barrel to A&D SxS's and H&H pattern SLE guns. They are not listed in the 1975 Spanish Arms Association catalogue.

Celta-Borchers was a retailer, rather than a maker. It made no guns.

Here is an example; a Gregorio San Martin (maker's mark GSM)sold under the BC label:

Kyrie,

Thank you for the correction. Celta-Borchers was listed in the 1963 Buxton's Guide as being a manufacturer. It is my understanding that there are/were other Spanish firms, not necessarily Basque, that have marketed guns under their name that were actually produced by other firms. Garate y Mendibe is listed as a gunmaker but, I believe they were primarily a supplier of hunting/shooting equipment and ammo (during the mid-1970's, I purchased two goatskin leg of mutton gun cases from Garate y Mendibe; gave one away, still have the other).

The following is a list of Asociacion Armera Members for the year 1972. There may be a few retailers amongst them.

I really hope Ugartechia makes a comeback. I have one that was sold by a different retailer but definitely made by Ugartechia. It has the Purdey double underlugs but doesn't have a 3 rd bite. Nevertheless, the gun is very well made & the action seems very sturdy. I have heard it said, "Spanish shotguns are some of the best that have ever been made & some of the worst." (not an exact quote). Uggies may not be the finest but they are surely not the worst!

--- snip ---

Trust Eibarres was another retailer, on a massive scale. Guns, ammunition, loading supplies, clothing, and so on. Think Orvis, but on a much grander scale.

In terms of shotguns, Unceta y Cia (Astra) was both a retailer and a maker. Astra made their own box lock shotguns, but all the Astra branded side lock shotguns were made by other makers. Astra insisted the other makers not mark the guns as to true maker, and marked them as "UC" (maker's mark of Unceta y Cia).
