Looking for some help dating a Excel 221, Ugartechea M30.

Your Ugartechea was proofed in 1984.

The D*2 mark on the barrel flats is the date code for 1984.

Ugartechea built a lot of SXS's on that model 30 platform for various importers in the US over the years. These were good guns, but built to a price point that allowed the importer to make his profit. The configuration and finish of the guns varied, but that model 30 was a good, solid platform for a slightly upscale SXS. Parker-Hale, Orvis, and Lion Country in addition to several others marketed the Model 30 under their names quite successfully. Bottom line is that if the gun pleases you and fits reasonably well, it will serve you well for many years. You done good.
