Back when I was shooting skeet the load was,

Remington STS or Winchester AA
Winchester 209 primer
17.5 grs. - 700-X
WAA12SL or CB1100-12 wad
1 oz. #9 magnum shot

or

Federal Gold Medal
Federal 209A
18.0 grs. - 700-X
12S0 or CB2100-12 wad
1 oz. #9 magnum shot

Gun Clubs
16.5 700X for 1200fps
TGT12 wad (doesn't matter what manufacture)
Winchester primer
1 oz. shot

makes clay targets dust.

For Win AA-HS hulls or Rem hulls, my ol' favorite loading was Win 209 primers, CB-1100 wad, and either 17 gr. of Red Dot for around 1145 fps, or 18 gr. of Red Dot for around 1200 fps.
(I intermix my Rem and Win hulls and they all load fine.) These are economical, clean-burning and break clays with authority.

I think Titewad is great stuff and is my first choice IF I am putting 1 ounce in AAHS. But for Remington hulls I prefer something a bit bulkier (Clay Dot, Promo, AS, or similar.) I buy my wads by the case and use primarily CB1100 for 1 ounce. With these and Titewad the crimps tend to dish in a Rem hull. Things might fit fine with a different wad- have not tried.

I use Remington hulls exclusively, W-209 primers and XL-1 Down Range wads.

I use this load , it doesn't kick and crushes targets. It might not work in some semi autos, but it works fine in my old 1100.

I go with 17.3 of claydot, cb 1100 wad, cheddite primer stuffed in remington gun club hulls. I only shoot 12 gauge in semi auto(1100&391). Just a reminder that alliant has a powder rebate going on now.

The title of this thread speaks in terms of "best" while the OP speaks in terms of "favorite" powder for a 1 oz. skeet load using a Rem hull. There is no such think as a "best" powder and "favorite" is subjective opinion. In my opinion, pull up a powder burn rate chart and look at powders starting with 700X and above. Any of those powders designed for shotshells will be just fine. The best powders will be ones that provide 1150-1200 fps with pressures in the 10K PSI range and that need the lightest powder charge to get you there. Such powders will be economical and provide clean, consistent performance. All of those powders will be good for your purpose; there is not a bad one on the list.

Be aware that when looking at Alliant data using Rem hulls, most of the time you will see loads that use only Rem primers (very expensive). You will also see when looking Alliant data for Win hulls that they will call for a Win primer. Hodgdon data does not suffer from this anomaly.

I have that issue with Gun Clubs and e3, however, the Winchester AA and Remington hulls are so similar in internal capacity that they are practically duplicates of each other.

For example, 17 grains e3 in a Remington hull with a Remington primer and a CB1100-12 wad gives 1200 fps and 8730 psi.

17 grains of e3 in a Winchester AA hull and W209 primer and a CB1100-12 wad gives 1200 fps and 8805 psi.

These are both one ounce loads.

I seriously doubt that using the W209 primers in the Remington hulls will overpressure the gun with this load.

I shoot skeet as practice for dove and duck season. For this purpose I use either an AA or Gun Club hull, 3/4 oz of shot with the CB 3/4 wad and Titewad powder. Reason for 3/4 oz is the average distance the clays are shot is 25 yards and the 3/4 oz load has an adequate pattern. It also makes a bag of shot go farther. Check the reloading manuals as the powder charges for AA and Gun Club vary for each hull as they also do with primer choice.

I agree with you that the way to approach the issue of data using expensive Rem primers in Rem hulls using Alliant powder is to look up a load using a Win hull and a Win primer and then sub in a Rem hull. But doing it the other way around, just subbing in a Win primer to the Rem hull data, could cause a problem because Win primers generally are "hotter" than Rem primers.

i use 17.5gn of promo with claybuster lightning wads ....my brother loads the same powder charge but with figure 8 wads and the recoil is noticeably softer with the lightning wads ....same as with my 7/8oz loads vs the grey 0178 wads ....recoil is stiffer on the 4 petal wads

I use inexpensive Promo powder for 1 oz. loads.

17 to 17.5 grains of e3, red dot, promo, clay dot, or clays with a win 209, and a cb1100 wad will make you a fine 1oz load with Remington hulls. I hesitate to mention 700 x because I’ve never used it but many here have and I’m sure it works just fine as well. These powders also leave some leeway to go a little hotter as well since you’re not specific in your question concerning speed. You’ll find plenty of data on alliant and hodgdon’s website on the subject.

For 4 years now, I still maintain that the best 1-ouce propellant for 12-gauge happens to be the cleanest, and the cheapest at less than $121/keg delivered to your front door step from Graf & Sons :

I use the same #32 MEC bushing, for the same ~17.5 grains as I did with the original Clays :

Buy the full HAZMAT amount (2 cases, - 40 bottles), and it becomes $108.74/keg. :)

I'll second the above, but add that you can get 45 bottles on one hazmat charge.

In the past, I have used 700X, Red Dot, Clays, & Promo. I can't say I could ever detect any difference in any of them if loaded to same velocity level. Clays did seem to burn a bit cleaner but I don't obsess over that.
