I am looking at loading the 3" 20 ga. with a 1 1/8 oz. buffered bismuth load. The loads I like are for the 3" Federal hull. I am not married to the Federal hull but I can't find any of the hulls listed in the data. The only 3" hulls I see available are Cheddite & maybe Fiocchi. BPI probably has data but I prefer to use the data I have. Any suggestions for a solution?

Some hulls you can get away with substitution as they are very similar internally (AA and STS come to mind as being really close). Personally I would not go rouge on the data and if I had to pick one hull that I absolutely wouldn't sub out it would be a Federal Hull. Typically they are the roomiest of the hulls so they also tend to run with the highest powder charges of any hull. Change that hull out to something different and you may get in trouble as pressures will go up because of less internal room.

I see hodgdon has some 1 oz loads for the 3" rem and winchester hulls. I would suspect they couldn't get enough velocity out of those two hulls with a 1 1/8 oz load due to smaller hull capacity overall.

BPI has some old load of the week stuff ---

Bpi sells the 3in fed 20ga hull in bags of 100 or 250.
