I'm sure this has been asked and answered somewhere in this forum can i us the claybuster HS (red) wads in the remington STS (green) hulls. I have been using the pink wads which I am almost out of but I have a ton of red wads.

Claybuster says you can load them in Rem hulls, but they don't say that the powder you're currently using will give you the stack height you need.

The red wad sure looks shorter in pictures. Is that the case?

I use this wad with 20/28 in Rem STS and American Clay hulls. Perfect.

I'm currently using 572 ball powder but when that's gone which will be soon I'm switching to universal but Hodgdon has no date using those wads in STS hulls

CB pinks are for the older CF win hulls, and Since STS hulls are still CF hulls, works fine in them.

Where you don't want to use the pink wads, is in the new HS hulls, since the pinks are slightly smaller in OD that the red wads, and get too much gas blow by the wad before it gas seal will seal up against the hull/barrel isntead. Hence end up with a lot of bloopers/off sounding shells when loaded to the 1200fps range with HS hulls and the pink wads.

Ahhhh Great info thanks Dano so it sounds like using the red wads in the STS should be fine I'm just going to use the same recipe as that's for the pink wads and see how it goes

The STSs really aren’t CF hulls, their injection moulded, slightly different. The profile of the inside of the hull is somewhat different than the CFAA, it’s actually more similar to an AAHS 12 or 20 ga hull. Remington wads have a larger dia. than WW pink wads, more the size of the red HS wads. That said, the WW CF wads work OK in them but I think the Red HS wads are a better fit. I load mine with DR PC-28 wads, more or less for CF AAs, only because I have a lot of them and they work better in the STS than AAHS hulls.

Save your self time and money by just loading this. AA28HS hull,win209 primer, 20/28 powder, CB5034hs wad. took my buddy a few years to switch from those extra long STS hulls that require lots of powder and sts wads. He finally tossed about 500 hulls realizing they cost more to reload. I use AA28hs wads in the above load because they fit better then the shorter CB wads. You did not ask but but advise is free.
