1oz Bismuth #5
Hodgdon Powder HS-6 Primer Fed. 209A Wad WAA20F1 Grains 22.0 9,700 PSI 1,200 FPS

https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/shotgun

Has anyone had any success with this load? I can't get the crimps correct as the #5 Bismuth at correct load is almost to the top.
The WAA20 wad has a huge crush section. Would I crush it to get the load further down so the crimp is correct? I tried paper overshot cards to help push it down and got one good looking crimp out of 8.

Any other 1oz Bismuth 20ga 2 3/4 loads anyone can recommend?

You need the WAA20F1 wad, which hasn't been made in 20? years.

There is a HUGE difference b/w the WAA20 wads (for 3/4-7/8oz) and the WAA20F1, they are NOT the same wad.

The collapse section on a wad is not meant to be crushed to accommodate oversize shot charges.

If you want to load 1oz 20ga you're almost certainly going to need to get some Remington SP20S wads, IF you can find some, they are the last 1oz 20ga wad standing unless you want to use felt wads.

THANK YOU!
Ugh, so many old recipies for parts that aren't made anymore. I used CB1078-20 which is the replacement for WAA20 based off the Hodgdon replacement wad list. I should have looked further for the F1 and just noticed they have another list of obsolete wads of which it is on. DOH!

So what's the felt wad option?

Oldschool overpowder cardboard and felt wads.

You'd be completely flying blind on component choice, powder charge, and pressures though unless you send stuff out to get pressure tested.

Skeetmans info is good, I was gonna point out f1 diff wad.
There are actually 4 excellent high capacity wads which can be used, they are steel or tungsten wads from b&p and gualandi, sold under diff marketing names. They hold 1oz of steel shot, or 1-1/4 oz bismuth probably...
You can get wads and data from BPI or Precision. Bpi names are:
Pt2092
Csd20
Csd203
Tps20

Thanks Dave, I have csd20's for steel. None of the books with bismuth have them that I have found. Now crossing off all the old recipes now that I know what to look for.
When's your recipe book coming out?

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up.

Is there a 20ga dedicated board somewhere too?

Never seen one. I read 16ga there, and 28gaSociety for 28 and 410. 28ga tends to be more Canadian, and the opposite of a duck site... more a place of farmers with land who walked out and shot some grouse that day. Not really, but thats my description of the forum feel. I like it. But I tend to skip all the expensive best double threads... not at a point in life where I've developed a desire for that yet, thank god! ;)
