When did they start making these out of gold? There is one on e-bay with a starting price of $47. Are these no longer in production?

The prices for these are kinda tempting me to buy a 3d printer and try my hand at making some. I should pull one of mine apart and see if the spring is something that can be sourced ready-made, that'd be about the only stumbling block, if it has to be custom made it'd be a pain.

The spring loaded wiper is the main reason I use it. The baffle part is “ ok “ I suppose , but I’ve not had big variations with drops with or without. I guess it makes some difference, maybe a lot with certain powders.

You have to use one of the red baffles to appreciate how well the wiper works.

The metal baffle is still available, at least more so than the PC.... several times I have posted about the manufacture of a small, simple spacer to fill the gap between the spring loaded plastic insert in the metal baffle and the charge bar..... works just the same, provides the needed seal for the powder entering the charge bar whether it is the MEC, UCB or whatever.... certainly costs less and works as well as an unobtainable PC unit...... sent a couple to Republican and built a few for a couple friends....... I suspect a 3D printer might be just the ticket for the little spacer.....Larry

For anyone looking for a 3D printable, spring-loaded powder baffle replacement for the MEC, my accomplice and I iterated to get something that works similar to the red one. It prints in three pieces that can be unscrewed if you want to clean it or change out the parts. I found a source for springs. You may be able to wind a suitable one yourself. Also there are several lengths of the slider bar to help fit your machine. Or print the longest slider and sand it down to fit what you need. Here’s the configuration that was tested and the observed results: “the baffle has been tried on a MEC 600 and a MEC Sizemaster using both the Universal Charge Bar and the MEC bar with powder bushings. I got very consistent drops and reduced powder migration -- it seemed to work well.” The 3D printer STL files are on Thingiverse along with a couple of action photos. Go to thingiverse.com and look for “Number 98 Powder Baffle for MEC Reloader” or thing number 4698014 or follow this link: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4698014The details of the spring are in the description and the photos. Let me know if you have questions or helpful suggestions.

kmatch,
Thanks very much! Especially for those of us who would never be able to procure a genuine article.

Hey everyone. I had a special request for another version of the 3D-printable without the “baffle” part. Basically it is a hollow tube version that can be used as a charge bar wiper without any baffle action. I uploaded the modified “Upper Body Hollow” file to the same Thingiverse page as above. Let me know how it works for us!
