Total rip-off. Works out to ~$250/sleeve. How long ago was it that Win was offering a 25% rebate off whatever price you paid? 2 summers ago? The next time that deal comes along, I'm buying more than I did the last time (and I'm still working through that buy).

It isn't a rip off when there are none to be had.

What's a fair price for a shooter-to-shooter sale?

In the early 80's deployed to the sandbox; when I left primes 2.50 thousand: went I got back primers were 5.00 thousand; 100% increase. It's a hobby if it gets to bad I have other hobbies.

oneounceload wrote: I never saw primers (209s) ever that low; a penny each, yes They were not 209's they were small pistol. I didn't do shotgun shells back then. At the gun show 12.50 for 5 thousand; when I got back 25.00 5 thousand. In the early 90's we hit 50.00 5 thousand. This time: just my opinion when the dust clears I think 250.00 for 5 thousand will become the standard. I assumed the price was the same when I got back, so I call the lady in Old Town Florida that came to the shows. I did my order so she would bring it didn't ask the total. Definitely got a surprise when she told me what I owed. Part time job on paid about 3.50 hour back then. Always kept part time job couldn't feed the family or shot on what the military paid back then.

Free enterprise is getting a fair price for something of value. You can legally ask anything you want for products & services but taking unfair advantage of the market is never pretty & that goes both directions. Particularly when it is instigated outside of normal market influences. What we have to do is learn how to make the market work for us. There is a big lack of data for alternate or substitute components. There is an alarming & increasing amount of data for powders that have been discontinued that hasn't been replaced by alternates or substitutes, particularly with hunting applications. New & improved as well as alternate data is not forthcoming & far too much data is developed solely to sell propitiatory products with little regard to the quality of the end results. We have the power of the purse & we need to learn how to use it!

WHO COMPRISES THE MARKET FOR RELOADING COMPONENTS? WHO HAS THE ABILITY TO SEEK ALTERNATIVE COMPONENTS & CREATE ALTERNATIVE DATA? SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEBODY. GIVING UP BEFORE YOU TRY DOESN'T SEEM TO BE A WINNING STRATEGY TO ME!

geometric wrote: WHO COMPRISES THE MARKET FOR RELOADING COMPONENTS?! Less then 5% of the shooting public. So you might as well take a chill pill and unlock the caps button because we wont see components (primers and powder) back on the shelves until the ammo shelves are well stocked. Not one of the big component manufactures has us at the top of their "I care list" geometric wrote: SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEBODY. ! I’ve been loading since 1965 and have never, ever seen any kind of primers at that price. Double that on rare occasions but nothing anywhere near that price. Cheapest I ever got was in 1965, RWS primers in a flat of 150 for $1.25. You lived a charmed life!

This is probably a dumb question, but has anyone called the Olin factory to see what the plan is? I just happened to notice a phone number on a box of shells I was filling with reloads.

In the late 70's when I was shooting, PPC Federal SP primers were being purchased by a friend who was a commercial reloader at $5/thousand. I piggybacked on his orders from a local distributer for my shooting. At the time I was shooting 18-20K pistol rds per year.
