Anybody here shoot 12 ga FITASC events with a 20 ga 1 oz load (with success)? My preference for events to shoot, in order, are:

1. Subgauge FITASC
2. Subgauge sporting/12 ga FITASC
3. 12 ga sporting

I’ve been planning on getting a K80 Parcours with the intent to buy subgauge barrels but have started to wonder if it’s possible to be successful shooting a K20 Parcours using 1oz loads from a 20 ga. Curious to see if anybody has taken this path.

When I used a 12ga all I shot was 1 1/8oz target loads and changed shot size to suit the bird I was hunting. After several years I found that hunting mostly chukar and huns 7 1/2 shot was fine but simply didn't kill the ocassional pheasant well enough. So I switched to #6 shot and every thing did well, even the ocassional quail! Lesson there it took me a long time to learn. I shouls have gone with a lighter gun in a small ga! In my 16ga, when I do use it which is seldom, I shoot 1 oz loads, never left me wanting! I think a 20ga with 7/8oz loads would be perfect for most hunter's. Light weight gun, low recoil and plenty of payload for what ever your shooting depending on your choice of shot. Shooting mostly a 28ga these days, I don't miss my 16g or my 12ga much. If I can't kill a bird with 3/4oz of say #6 shot, 1 1/2oz of 6's isn't gonna help!

A 1oz 20 ga load is a poor substitute for a 1oz 12 ga. Particularly if you are going to shoot them out of a 20 ga gun.

In the Olympics they shoot 24 g. A one ounce load is 28 g.

Yet every shooter in the Olympics uses a 12b gun for that 24g load.

I have also seen in informal pattern testing that 1 oz patterns more uniformly out of a 12b.

BUT it's sure OK to be different. :D
