Seeking out all our resident Zoli experts. I am curious if there is a way to determine the production year based on the serial number like we could do with Browning. If so, are there any prior to production years that should be avoided?

I have been poking around online and reached out to Zoli, but so far no luck. Any help is appreciate it.

All Italian guns are stamped on the barrels with a 2 character code for the year of proof. There's a sticky in the Beretta forum on dating them.

The proof code on my Zoli is on the bottom of the mono-block, it's 2 letters in a rectangle.
The proof code on my gun just happens to be my initials.

Where is it located?
I didn't see anything that looked like a date.

Its not a date, but a two digit code on the monoblock. Follow the recommendation from Trickster below and you will figure it out.

Per Trickster and I confirmed...."All Italian guns are stamped on the barrels with a 2 character code for the year of proof. There's a sticky in the Beretta forum on dating them."

As Waldyo is in Australia, perhaps they stamp an import date on them?
I'll wait for his photo...

The newer Z's have the date stamped on the side rib just in front of the receiver on the right hand side of the gun, full date, no codes. I'm not sure what year that practice started, but my 2014 gun is marked that way.

Mine was made in 2011 and was imported by Coles, there is no date stamped on it.

Hey y’all, I’ve inherited an Antonio Zoli O/U. I know it was bought from Sears during or prior to the 1980s. When I break the gun in half (terminology... not a fluent gun person) i can see a few numbers. I want to get a date for this thing. Here is what I can see inside the barrel:

10009
7E 12 MAG

Any clue when this was manufactured? I’d greatly appreciate it. This gun was my grandfather’s and he passed away recently.

Thanks!
