Have to be honest, but so far I am not impressed by the Melbourne Gun Shops I have visited.
A couple have a decent range of gear (O'Reillys and Clayton) but they could both could improve their customer relations skills somewhat...
Whereas Centreway Guns (Keilor) are a friendly family run store but not massive on range.
The best store I've found in SE OZ by far is Elks in Albury. Big shop (well not Midway USA size but pretty big) and friendly knowledgeable staff.

If you are in NZ (Judging by your user name) then not much to be gained by shopping in OZ.
We suffer from the same issues as NZ (Rip off prices; compared to the USA) and greedy importers.
Being an ex Kiwi I'd say you'd be better off saving your $$$ and shopping at the big stores like SAI in Auckland or Gun City etc in CHCH.

Many of us in OZ buy from the USA via internet sales (except Guns & Ammo obvioulsy).
Even then if you get a few mates orders together for one going to the USA on holiday, you can declare ammo and bring back a few cases from the USA...
Likewise some gun parts (stocks etc) can be brought in yourself.
