Hey ES, you're mighty close to Ophir.

Come on down and shoot! Sat/Sun 1-5

Drive South on 109 to Eldorado. At the Fire Station, turn left on Ophir Rd. Drive about 4 miles to Low Water Bridge Rd and turn left. Go about 3/4 mile and skeet field is on the right.

$4.00 per round

No charge for the BS.

Doesn't matter if you've shot 0 or thousands. Come on down. I'll be there today and tomorrow.

Lee Harris, owner and trap puller, walks anyone through it that needs help and wants it. Real laid back atmosphere.

Thanks for the welcome, Bud.

I plan on using a gun primarily for Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

I have shot B 391 twice (actually 2 different guns). Being so new, I can't really tell you how much I like it. I did see an improvement from my first lesson (last Saturday) and my performance last night. However, these were semi-autos and the more I read the more I am leaning towards an O/U.

My concerns:
1. The budget...........$600-$1800
2. New vs. Used
3. Longevity/Dependability
4. Low Maintenance
5. Handling Many Rounds per Day (500)

The club's site is

http://www.oldhickorygunclub.com

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of info on the shoot other than the dates.

We are having a shoot next weekend as well.

I'm going to reccomend that the club put more shoot info on the site.

Kernersville---that is between Winston-Salem and Greensboro. I grew up in Winston-Salem. I have never tried trap, skeet , clay, or anything for that matter. I do love turkeyshoots though. it is alot easier to hit that target when it aint moving. But i might try some skeet real soon. teach me your game and i will teach you my game---that way we will both be great at both.

Anyone who plans to do more than just occasional target shooting shouldn't pay much attention to what the gun costs (up to about $3,000 or so). Buy whatever gun makes you happy.

If you will do a little figuring, you will quickly conclude that the overwhelming majority of the cost for shooting clay targets is the cost of the target plus the cost of the ammo. The second highest cost is for transportation to and from the range (for MOST people).

A typical round of skeet or trap will cost you $3.50 for the targets and another $3.50 for the shells. That's $7 per 25 targets. If you shoot 100 targets twice a week, that's a cost of $56 per week. Do this for about 40 weeks per year and you have spent about $2,200 in ONE YEAR just for the targets and shells. Once that money is spent, it's GONE! In 5 years, you will have spent about $11,000 and that doesn't include a cent for transportation costs to and from the range or anything else.

If you spend say $2,500 on a good O/U shotgun, you can shoot that gun for 5 years and sell it at the end of that period and get most of your money back. At most, you would lose several hundred dollars on the resale. So now, someone tell me why it makes any sense to try to save a few hundred dollars on some gun that you may not like as well or shoot as well as a better gun?

Buy the gun that you like and want. If you have to cut corners financially somewhere, just stay home a few times out of the year and the money saved on shells and targets will easily pay for the more expensive gun.
